Smitty over on ISD has a blog post on the recruits in for this game and there are a lot of them. He says the 2 most likely to verbal to the Irish this weekend are.....

Donaldven Manning and Byron Marshall...both would be great pickups!!

L.A. Times Article on the game.

    Better watch out gip! :)
Now I was at the '87 MSU game at night, and the '88 Stanford game also at night, and I would hardly decscribe the crowds as unruly. But sounds like South Bends finest will be out looking for Irish fans who might have had too much to drink!

I was at the '87 MSU game too and I don't recall any crowd problems. Then again, maybe I was too drunk to notice :)

A close friend and classmate recently retired after a 15-year second career as head of ushers at ND. I visited with him this past summer. We talked about a lot of things including his pending retirement. He mentioned that he had offered to stay until the end of the football season, but he had a big concern and major difference of opinion with the higher-ups on how to handle the night game with Southern Cal. He said nothing negative about anyone in the ND family. His loyalty to ND is beyond reproach. He was careful to not go into detail about the difference of opinion and who thought what, but I had the distinct impression that this difference of opinion was the reason he was retiring effective August 31 and not the end of the year.

I read all of the LA Times articles today and other local newspapers. To summarize:

    - Notre Dame fans will be drunk and unruly on Saturday. This is their Super Bowl so watch your step in South Bend. This used to happen all the time and the new ND administration wants to bring it back...

    - Notre Dame has stolen many USC players over the years, like Manti Teo and Michael Floyd. They're rolling out the red carpet for this game, so that they can steal more, like Arik Armstead...

Another stereotype...Irishmen are a bunch of drunks!

I see that Blair Kiel is looking around at his options and will be at the ND/USC game. He was high on Alabama and OU but I believe that those schools have moved on for this year at QB. With Crist most certainly going to transfer that leaves an obvious opening in the depth chart. Plus if Hendrix continues to get playing time and does very well a lot of people are thinking that Golson will transfer as well. He (Golson) is supposedly struggling academically, one of the reasons why Hendrix is getting the call and Golson is getting the red shirt.

    Kiel

interesting info on Kiel. At one time I was really wanting him to come to ND. When I watched some of his video he was in the shotgun and making a lot of plays with his legs and looked like he had plenty of speed. I figured he would fit in Kellys offense well. But I kept seeing him listed ad a pro-style QB and it appeared he wanted to go to a pro-style offense. Who knows, if things go well tomorrow he may like what he sees at the Bend.</t>

Boy these night games are different. Usually by now I'd be halfway to campus. Today, I'm not leaving for another hour or so.

How are you going to get that prime spot in the lot for tailgating?

Btw rumours abound that there will be special jerseys for the game. Black with green and players names!

    Tim,

We lost wearing green jerseys when our teams (and head coaches) were not very good. I prefer to remember 1977 when we stomped Southern Cal wearing green jerseys and went on to win the national championship. I respect your superstitious feelings. I'm a veteran of superstitious thinking myself. But if we can whip the boys from LA, I don't care if our jerseys are red.

Probably a false alarm. I don't really get all that fired up about uniforms, so many teams these days have mulitiple uniforms, special uniforms, etc and the kids seem to like them. But at least on ND internet boards it almost always causes a firestorm that sometimes makes it hard to even recognize that a game was played.

Man, they kicked our ass. We were boys and they were men. Kelly was thoroughly outcoached by Kiffin as well.
