What they should have shown immediately afterward was the final Faust home game also against LSU. On a brutally cold day, LSU completely dominated the home team. Commish brought a sign to the game that said "Goodbye Gerry." As I recall, he was very successful at getting skilled athletes to come to ND but when Lou took over, he found the line cupboard almost bare.
I've seen Faust at some of the ND games. He's a loyal ex employee.

If I remember correctly, in his first recruiting class he had something like 13 Parade All-Americans...an unheard of haul at that time. This was before recruiting services made being a Parade AA sort just another award. I think his 2nd class was also loaded...after that it went downhill fast as the losses began to pile up and to most it was clear he was out of his league.

I read his book and Corrigan talked with him after his 4th year and told him they would honor his contract but that he would not be offered an extension baring him making a complete 180 and winning the Nat'l Championship. He advised Faust to resign and move on, Gerry still believed he could do it and just couldn't give up on his dream. If you remember Jimmy Johnson put the exclamation point on his tenure with the game in Miami where it was 56-? and could have been worse.

Lou did have some key players like Tim Brown, Steve Buerlein, etc left over to work with in '86. And though Lou had a losing season, he was cheated out of beating Michigan in his first game, and I don't think any of his losses were by more than a TD. He finished the season by beating USC, something Faust also was able to do amazingly. In fact Faust started that unbeaten streak with a win in 1983, and followed up with 2 dominating wins in '84 and '85.

USC was way down during those years. I sure wish they'd return. :D

Now that I recall, Faust managed to let go a number of coaches because in his opinion they couldn't get the job done. Corrigan gave him the chance to do the honorable thing. He didn't.

<r>Well Tim Brown and I are of the same opinion on starting QB for this season. Heard him say on Sirius radio the other day that <B><s></s>Malik Zaire <e></e></B>should be the starter. <E>:D</E></r>

    :p

That makes four of us. Quarterbacking, like pitching, is as much between the ears as it is the arm...

    It sure is.

I was at the Syracuse game last year. Right at mid field.

Golson came in as the hottest QB in college football and on the short list for the Heisman. Three hours later it was all forgotten.

It was the worst game I had ever seen a QB have and the Irish won by two TDs. Five turnovers with two more close calls against a team with a defense in name only.

It was the beginning of a young man who would completely lose his self confidence over the next month. By the USC game he had a full blown case of PTSD.

He throws a beautiful ball but the rest of his QB game is way below par.

Well I am hoping that a light has come on for Golson, but that this year we have a real backup in Zaire so that Kelly won't hesitate to make a move.

Men's Lacrosse lost to Duke in the ACC conference tournament and now is ranked nationally #2 to Syracuse, who won the tournament. We'll have a good seed for the NCAAs.

Yeah I saw that they lost to Duke, the 'Cuse were #1 earlier in the season. I think there are only 16 lacrosse teams to make the NCAA tourney.

The Lacrosse Team got the #1 seed in the Mens NCAA tourney. The women have an invite, but are unseeded and play unseeded Ohio State. Interesting thing I noted is that one the womens side there are 26 teams in the tourney, not 32...looking at the bracket it's quite odd to see the gaps. The mens tourney is only 16 teams. All mens team play in the 1st round, while the top 6 seeds in the womens get a bye, with #7 and #8 seeds having to play in the first round.

I would have thought there would be many more mens teams and a larger tourney than the women. But it's the reverse.

Also the Valedictorian for the class of 2015 is a Anna Kottkamp a member of the womens varsity rowing team. She's a walk on who had never rowed before and ended up with a scholarship. Good for her!

Womens Lacrosse beat Ohio State in their first game and then lost to Northwestern the #8 seed.

Men beat Towson in a pretty hotly contested match. Next up is unseeded Albany who beat #8 seed Cornell. Ohio State took out Duke who beat us in the ACC tourney. If seedings prevail we should play Denver in the semifinals and we lost to Denver early in the season at their place.

Although Albany is unseeded they do have the best player in the country. Last year they gave us all that we could handle and you just know that they're looking to get even this year.
