Quenton Nelson is from this area. Local legend. Superb blocker and DT. Played with one of Joe Klecko's sons at Red Bank Catholic. If he's not the strongest player on the team I'd like to know who is. Reputation for a real serious mean streak. This kid is going to kick a lot of ass.

A couple of things standout...Golson continues to impress with arm strength and accuracy, and Jerry Tillery is a stud.

I forgot Nelson was a Joisey kid...good we need toughness in the OL.

<t>Sounds like Kelly is really high on the Tillery kid. Hope this translates more help on the defense.</t>

<t>Back to football. I see this QB completion going on now between Zaire and Golson and you will hear me say this plenty of times until it's over and that is that Zaire needs to be the starting QB. If Golson wants to stay and be #2 then fine but I just have no trust in him anymore. He looks great in practice as always but something happens come game time and I don't want to start off losing games because of his mistakes.</t>

Well I'm on the Golson bandwagon myself, the kid just has too much talent at QB. His arm is stronger and more accurate than Zaire and while not the runner that Zaire is he can hurt you with his feet. That said I'll feel very good if he starts to turn the ball over like he did last year after the first few games that we can go to Zaire and still be very good offensively.

Everyday there are more kudo's going towards Jerry Tillery, like most of us I couldn't understand why he was going to defense, but it's pretty clear right now that he's ready to play at a pretty high level on defense, would have had to probably sit a year or two on the OL.

Also reading some good stuff about Nyles Morgan, hopefully being forced into the starters job last year early will pay dividends this year. We will have some depth there with Schmidt and Garrett coming back and apparently doing well physically.

I didn't see 2012 coming, mostly because our offense was so suspect and we had a freshman at QB. But this year I expect a really good season, hard to say I expect a playoff level season, but I wouldn't be shocked.

That makes two of us. In my case, I have confidence that the coaches will make the right decision, both in naming the starting QB and in knowing if and when the starter needs to come out and the #2 needs to go in. As Lou Holtz has always said, the most popular guy on the field is the second-string QB.

This team's key players from last year are a year older and a year closer to grabbing the reins of leadership. That includes the senior QB. IMO, we have the talent to win big. How the leaders lead will make all the difference.

Gotta love this kid. Looks like the staff really knew what they were doing when they put the young man on Defense instead of Offense.</r>

    re: Rex Pflueger

As a matter of fact, I watched him in the State Finals of the Open Division this weekend. They lost in triple OT to Bishop O'Dowd of Oakland by one point. This kid Pflueger can shoot the lights out and he's won a dunk contest too. As a 6'5" shooting guard, I think Irish fans can look forward to games where it's raining three-pointers in South Bend. He's a good one.

BTW- The new California State Champion in Division III is..........drum roll.......wait for it........Damien HS in Laverne, CA.

<t>I don't doubt what Mike Frank is saying but we all know he's going to turn the ball over. I'll take Zaire.</t>

<r>little blurb from 247 Sports on QB situation:<br/>

    <QUOTE><s>
    </e></QUOTE>

that's all fine and dandy but are the stats gonna show EG holding the ball out at arms length while running with it(he still does) or throwing the ball in two double/triple coverage while running for his life?(just throw it away) I don't think so.</r>
