Yeah the last time that happened Zach Kustok transfered to Northwestern, and became gippers favorite qb!
I have serious doubts about Crist. Of course that probably comes from being a Detroit Lions fan and watching the QB go down time and again with injuries. You're probably better off with a good and durable QB than a great but oft injured one. At least you have consistancy in your offense. It seems to me that Hendrix and Golson have more upside potential than Crist and Rees. (Then again the QB on the bench is ALWAYS better than the guy playing )
Here's my two cents: I agree with Gipper. In terms of talent/upside they rank like this: 1. Hendrix 2. Golson 3. Crist 4. Rees If only it were that easy...eh? There's several special circumstances that will make this process a sticky one: 1. Hendrix is the redshirt who has never started a game. Are we going to do this "new QB" thing every year? BTW- if we don't use him, someone else will. We almost lost him to Florida last year. 2. Golson is a super rookie, but rookies are rookies are rookies. It would be a balsy move by Kelly to start a raw rook with three more experienced QBs in game-ready condition sitting on the bench. Hendrix and Crist were high school All-Americans too... 3. Rees is 4-0 as a starter, with a wins over ranked teams, bowl winning teams and back-to-back wins over USC and Miami. How do you sit him down? If you lose the opener to Skip Holtz with Rees on the bench, the villagers will be storming the castle with torches and pitchforks in hand. It's been done before, but it's a risk BK may have to take. The fact is, the Irish simply have better QBs than Rees... 4. Everyone has lost faith in Crist, including me. That's probably not fair, but that's just the way it is. Sometimes a good player just gets beaten out by better players. Doo-doo happens. He seems ill-suited to Kelly's offense; fragile as a runner; uncertain in his decision making. The Irish can do better...
Certainly will be the most watch QB competition for the Spring that I can remember since the days that Joe Montana was 5th string! I agree that it Hendrix or Golson will have to have monster springs and clearly beat out Crist and or Rees to be the starter against USF. So many people are impressed with Golson that they seem to expect him to play a lot as a freshman, maybe their right, but I would rather see him sit a season without the pressure and learn the offense, get stronger and acclimated to college before we expect him to put on the cape. I do like everything I've heard about Hendrix, strong arm, strong body, solid but not spectacular runner....but again how do you have 2 experienced kids and start the newbie, unless he just blows away those guys. Next year is a very important year for Kelly, some wins got away from him last year and he knows it. I can't imagine him taking a risk and starting Hendrix against USF. The other question is that with Kelly stating that he can't work with more than 4 QB's, what happens in next years class. Crist will still have a year left for 2012, Rees 2 years, Hendrix 3 years and Golson (3 or 4 years depending). So all of those guys could be back in 2012, if you are a HS recruit who will sign in Feb 2012 and we have been looking at a number of excellent QB's for 2012...how comfortable do you feel throwing you hat in the ring where the coach says only 4 QB's can get reps, and he already has 4 QB's? Might get dicey.
I've made the Pilgrimage! So has Tim, JO'Co, Corey, even Krebs finally made it. Jiffer not yet! <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/RljMjWYkTwg" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Actually made my first pilgrimage in 1977 with my Dad to see the Irish beat Miami. We didn't have a lot of money so that was a big deal and I felt like I was in heaven. I returned the favor in 1995(?) and took him and my sons for the BYU game. Back again in 2004 for a BYU game and again in 2008 for Stanford with my now married son, daughter in law and yet unborn grandson. Its all about the Tradition.
Always on my list of places to go.....finally got the opportunity in 1996. Great visit, great venue, great seats, great game, great fans......even the ones that stood me up at the MBC whilst I enjoyed my victory pints of 4 Horsemen Ale searching in vain for the G-Man! I even checked every dumpster in the area....to no avail!
ND <r>Terry,<br/> <br/> Enjoyed the video. My first trip to SB was 1999(ND vs Oklahoma). Even with rain the day of the game it was still great. I remember going in to see the stadium friday the day before game...it was awesome. Felt like a kid at disneyland for the first time. I've been to a few games since but always remember the first better than all the rest. <br/> <br/> As for best MOMENT at ND stadium...had to be the 2006 ND vs UCLA game....Quinn pass to Samardzija for game winning TD with seconds left on the clock!!! <E></E> Never heard the stadium that loud before....still get chills watching the replay!!!!</r>
This may be old news to some, but it's new to me. Six team members have applied for a fifth year of eligibility. They are David Ruffer, Harrison Smith, Taylor Dever, Gary Gray, Andrew Nuss, and Mike Ragone. My understanding of how the process works is that if there are more who are eligible than there are spots available, then only the student-athletes apply who have been told that they will be considered. The others have been advised not to apply. I don't know if that's still the case or not.
Ruffer has been given a scholarship and H. Smith has been name a co-captain for 2011 so they will be back. I would assume that Gary Gray will be welcomed back after the season he had.
 They have to attend grad school and there has to be an opening. If they're accepted to grad school they can apply for a 5th year, if there was an entire year that they didn't play before. The coaches may then make an offer of a 5th year after recruiting is done. This year there may be as few as three openings... It's kind of a redshirt on the back end instead of the beginning.
Savon Huggins to Rutgers... http://www.northjersey.com/sports/012811_Top-ranked_running_back_from_St_Peters_Prep_commits_to_RU.html Niklas between Irish and USC... Only Tuitt worries me. Why is he waiting until signing day to sign? I'll bet his HS coach is camped out on his front lawn with GT's coaches...
I saw Savon's announcement on YouTube, and he had a new twist on the hat trick. They brought him the hats and he held them under the table then he stood up and put on a UNC hat, then some cheering and then he takes off the ND hat and under it is the RU hat, more cheering. Good luck to him I guess.
ND <r>Personally I think the whole "which hat will he put on?" show is just a bit too much. Just sit down and tell us which school you will be grateful to attend and then shut up. Now go show the school that you were worthy of the time and money they spent getting you to sign with them. Both on and off the field please! <E>8)</E></r>
I'm going to miss some of the guys that we struck out on: like Prestwood... But I won't miss Huggins or Hayes. Their maturity level was just too low and Huggins didn't look very good in that all-star game I saw him in. At least Hayes will be running behind a Michigan line. Huggins will have to create his own holes at Rutgers...
Huggins will do just fine at Rutgers. Lets' not forget, blocking is a newly acquired taste in South Bend. It was dropped from the menu after Bob Davie left.
