Well he's been getting a lot of criticism for his program. While I'm sure it's deserved, those who follow things like that say that our players don't develop strength as they go through the program. I've read that some of the players have hired their own trainers. While I assume all that is true, I do have to wonder why we were a fit and tough team in 2012, but not now. Why have we had a guy like Zach Martin and Ronnie Stanley be 1st round picks and a guy like Jaylon Smith be a top 5 pick before his injury it the program was bad. But this program needed a kick in the ass if Kelly was going to stay and make it work. New blood on Defense and if S&C wasn't up to par with top programs then fix that as well. A lot of people said Longo was one of Kelly's best friends and he's very loyal and has allowed Longo and the S&C program slide due to the friendship. The thing I'm hoping about Elko is that not only is he a good coach but he's also a great recruiter. Neither Diaco or BVG liked recruiting and according to what I read their effort was lukewarm. Polian is known as a dynamic recruiter and I hope Elko is as well. We really need somebody on the defense who can bring in some studs, like Manti' Teo and Jaylon Smith and Sheldon Day and Nyles Morgan, we are short of those types on defense. I have to wonder what other shake ups will be happening. With the new DCoord coming on board there could be some more guys leaving. Also there have been rumors that Denbrock will be leaving as well. Gilmore is another guy who could be moving. Elston? I'm guessing that we'll have these answers by middle of January for sure. That's when the players come back from Christmas break and start the off season conditioning program.
Women's basketball beat Toledo today, somewhat handily. I watched some of the game and I have to say right now we are a pretty sloppy team handling the ball. We do have superior talent that against a team like Toledo overcomes that, but this team is going to have to get better if they are to go deep into the NCAA tournament. We need Jackie Young to get healthy again and for Ali Patberg to build up her strength and become a factor for the team.
I think we can judge his S&C program quite harshly. You can't mistake talent for training. Ask yourself, when you saw Alabama play the Irish, did we look as deep, sound or physical as they were?
ND <r>Please tell me that this crap is not true!<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> We don't need an OC, especially him!!!! <E>:?</E> <E>:x</E> <E>:?</E> <E>:x</E></r>
Not sure why he was in South Bend, maybe they are thinking of hiring him as an offensive analyst. He's had some stops where his offense worked great, but with Hoke at UM he had shoelaces a QB best suited for the Rodriguez style of offense not his..it never worked.
I read a report that is premature http://www.onefootdown.com/2016/12/...h-keith-gilmore-is-fired-and-is-totally-wrong
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> You mean I may be guilty of distributing false information? I got that info from MSNBC. Surely they wouldn't try to mislead me on purpose. No wait, it was NBC or was it ABC or was it CBS. Hell, I forgot it was one of those it was. They are all trusted news organizations though <E></E></r>
HAHAHAAHA! I think everyone on the D side will have to interview for their jobs. Hopefully, we're bringing in a guy who will demand that we perform on the field on in the living room (as well as on Twitter etc etc)
They need to get this done with Elko soon. We're in the dead period so you can't contact recruits but coming out of the dead period we need to have a defensive coordinator who can talk to kids about his vision for them at ND and how our defense is going to setup. Ever since the O'Leary fiasco we take an inordinate amount of time getting these guys officially on board. There is a new/old name who has popped up, Latavious Brini , on the Irish Recruiting board. He visited for the Irish Invasion and then committed to UGa he's backed out of that and has renewed interest in the Irish along with some other programs as well of course. Don't know how good this kid is or how bad we want him, but if we do we need a DCoord who can talk to him when the dead period is over. His other schools of interest all have DCoord that can do that.
Also there are a couple of WF kids, DL's, who possibly could follow Elko to South Bend and we need DL's badly. Back to Gilmore, nobody knows if Gilmore is in our out, and if he's out is Mike Elston going to move back to coaching DL which he did when he first came to ND? A lot of people think Elston has done a good job as the Recruiting Coordinator for Kelly and that's he is a good LB coach. But will Elko bring his own DL coach from Wake? What other D Coaches will he bring. All needs to be worked out before the end of the year if possible.
Irish Men beat Colgate last night, but the highlight of the game was the surprise homecoming of Matt Farrell's brother from Afghanistan for Christmas. https://twitter.com/NDmbb/status/811039990276911106

Nice solid win by the women last night over a good Mich State squad. One more non-conf game next week before diving into the ACC schedule.
