I think you are right Gip....new QB and WR's have to step up...nobody is going to replace MF but maybe, just maybe a committee of guys will step up and run good routes and the new QB's will find them.

Danny Spond has migraines, not a concussion. It was diagnosed by a U. of Michigan specialist. It will be 2 weeks before he's allowed back on the field.

That's good news, it had been rumored at one time that the doctors were thinking he had had a stroke.

I wonder why he went to a Mich hospital instead of Chicago..ie Univ of Chicago or Northwestern.

Football Media Day is live on UND.com at 1:20 PM ND time.

I guess one of the big deals will be the unveiling of the special uniform package for the Navy game in Ireland. They've been letting bits and pieces out over the last week, we already know that they have special shoes, just don't know about pants, jersey's and helmets.

I predict outrage over the uniforms.

I thought they were teasing with bits of the uniform for the Miami game in Soldier Field. At least that's what they are doing on twitter. Maybe they are doing both.

You are right Sid they have been teasing about Miami game uniforms...I for some reason thought they were for the Navy game.

I was worried that I would not have enough in the tank to be outraged over 2 special game uniforms in one weekend. But I feel better now that I can focus my outrage on the Miami game uniforms!

OK, the uniforms are OK, still true to our basic colors and style, albeit a different shape for the numbers. BUT....why, oh why, are they wearing that UGLY helmet? I don't blame fans for being upset. This time, I'm one of them.

Well the new uniforms are out for the Miami game.

Jersey and Pants, not really that much of a departure from tradition...but the helmet...will be subject of much talk. Actually I'm ok with it, it's one game...wouldn't want it to be our new helmet. Naturally the kids on the team love it, but then they are kids and they like a lot of stuff us stuffy old guys don't like. For example I can't imagine Sid wearing his jeans below his boxers!

Here's a link to the Miami uniforms.

I laughed out loud at that one.

OK, OK. I'll go along with you on this one, Terry. I'll back off of my initial reaction to the helments. Or, as they say these days in politics, I'll walk back my initial reaction.

Somehow, I'm not thinking Tim's reaction is sincere. Am I wrong, Tim?

    uniforms

    <t>Sid,

Well you are sorta right. I'm not being totally sincere on my thoughts about the uniforms. It was just kind of my response to some of the comments I saw on the popular ND bulletin boards. You would think some of them were ready to kill themselves over the appearance of the uniforms! But these guys are the same people who don't have anything good to say about ND or Kelly right now. It wouldn't matter what the unis looked like they weren't going to like them anyway.

Personally I'm not good with change and I like tradition so I'd rather see them in some of the unis from the 70s or 80's but that just me. I don't see the point of making a bid deal out of it. It's not a permanent change anyway.

If we can put up with some of the uniforms we see on a regular basis from schools like Oregon(talk about God-Awful) and others, I'm sure we'll survive these.</t>

From Kelly's press conference today it's pretty darn clear that Golson will be the starter at QB for Navy.

From what I've read it seems like Troy Nikklas is making a big impact at TE, he won't supplant Eifert or Koyack but he'll play and has a big future at the position.

Also the CB's seem to be better than expected. And Sheldon Day will get a lot of playing time on DL, Nix seems poised to have a big year as well. And Tuitt is a big boy at over 300lbs of solid muscle apparently.

The surprise to me is that Mike Golic has apparently legitimately won the starting job at guard and the reports are that he looks pretty good as well.

ok...I'm going to go refill my koolaide right now! :)

    Tim,

Good comments. I'm on board with you and Terry. When I look at the helmets, I'll just repeat to myself....it's only one game.....it's only one game.......until they look great. Of course, if we whip Miami's butt, I won't care if we're wearing the old cross-striped leather helmets. 8)

Terry, thanks for the update. Sounds good. Who knows? We might run some two tight end sets with Niklas and Koyak in and Eifert wide. That would be something to see.

I see where Coach Kelly said that Golson has thrown only one interception in 126 passing attempts.

I'm utterly amazed at the amount of band width used in discussing uniforms to be worn in one game. Compared to who is 3rd on the depth chart at CB it is meaningless.
That being said football is still really a game and it's supposed to be fun for the people that are playing it. (It's not a sacriment that has to be preformormed in Latin.) If the kids like dressing up once in a while in fancy clothes, I'm all for it. HOWEVER, did they have to look so much like Michigan???? That's my only beef.
And as for the shoes in Ireland, I think that they're great. They sure as hell don't look like anything I've seen in Ann Arbor.
Now can we get back to talking about important things such as a Jumbotron and field turf. It keeps our mind off of personel and schedule.

    ND

<t>well I just watched a segment of the "Tim Brando" show and just couldn't believe what I was hearing from these guys. Tim Brando wasn't on the show today so they had a fill in from N.Y. Anway they started talking about the whole relevance /irreverence thing et, yada, yada, yada...then they all declared what they thought as far as wins/losses for ND this season.

Right out of the gate of the 4 guys the best they could say about the Navy game was the ND would somehow eek it out. Did these guys watch the game at all last year? It was a blow out and no matter who the QB is this game will be another blow out by the Irish.

They took a long time before they agreed that ND would beat Purdue at home......are they serious?!!! This will be a blow out also by the Irish! geez

It took less than 2 seconds for them all to agree that ND would lose to Mich. St......It may be close but this is an Irish win.

One of the guys picked ND initially over Mich and then change his mind. No way ND can contain D. Robinson.....This one will be close also but it's an Irish win.

They didn't have too much controversy before picking ND over Miami...So am I.

They all picked Stanford.....really. Irish win this one at home. Close maybe but a win.

They gave a little thought on BYU possibly winning and were split on their decision but finally agreed on an ND win. This will be a big win for ND. Bank on it.

Of course none gave ND any chance against OU at there place. I'll have to give them this one.

They were somewhat hesitant before picking ND over Pitt....again...really. It's a blowout for ND. Bank it!

Same with Boston College...they actually had to think about this one too...can you say blowout? Please. What idiots.

They gave ND a win over Wake forest but had to think a while on that one too...I don't. ND WINS!

Of course no second thoughts on their parts about picking USC. This one to me may depend on how the depth effects USC. As this is the last game of the season they may not be a full strength. it is at their place and as it is right now they have a more talented starting offense so I give them the nod.

So they feel ND will have a 6-6 season or at best 7-5 and the games ND does win will all be close struggles!!

I say we will go

I can't wait for the season to start now. I was kinds lukewarm before but now these geeks really got my b/p up!

I hope we put a hundred on Navy!

I prediction is 9-3. 8-4 at worst. If Golson hits the ground running from game one then anything is possible.

How do idiots like these guys get on a radio talk show?</t>

Does anyone relaize how much better than last year we can be with a mobile QB who can throw deep, half the turnovers and punt returns averaging 5 yds.? All of those are doable. (as to the turnovers, if we turn the ball over once against Navy we'll already be 4 less than last year after game one.)
Every program loses quality players because of graduation. Obviously losing MF hurts, but look what Stanford has lost. Besides Luck, they lost 2 stud O linemen.
We should win at MSU. We had the last game won up their until they won on a heart attack inducing fake FG. Like us they'll be playing with an inexperienced QB.
At some point Michigan's luck has to run out. I'm betting it's this year. (**** like Crist's eye injury and last minute 80 yd. drives in 20 sec. can't happen every year, can they?)
Oklahoma is just too difficult an opponent, but by the end of the season, depth issues might make SC vulnerable. I see no reason that we can't go 9 and 3. Pass the kool aid plese.

....and Luck's go-to TE, Coby Fleenor, who now is Luck's teammate with the Colts.
