Excellent observation, JO'Co. Normally, it's the WRs and TEs who you look for to do that well for the RBs to gain big yards. I loved seeing Zaire throw that block, and it was a good one.
ND <t>Corey, <br/> <br/> Hurry up and give us a detailed report of the game. I know it had to be great being there!</t>
sorry Tim! I wanted to post it by now but Harlow and I are mesmerized by the beat down TCU is putting on Ole Miss right now. I'll put it up now. I have some pictures to upload and Facebook doesn't let me link them for some reason. I'm having to move a few images to free hosting.
Well recruiting continues on.... Coney the Fla LB is supposedly having a great UA Camp and still solid to ND, he is an early enrollment kid so if the Gators are going to flip him they will have to work fast, and they are trying very hard. All the signs seem to point towards So.Cal WR Equanimeous St. Brown being a likely ND verbal soon. Also Nick Ferritta's buddy from Gorman, current UCLA commit Aliz’e Jones is a likely flip...sweet if we can steal him from UCLA. He's a top 100 TE and had to like what he saw in the Music City Bowl. Not looking good for Ron Jones RB (Texas) he's likely to go to USC and SoSo Jamabo also RB (Texas) is likely to go to UCLA. But the Plan B kid isn't too bad either, Jordan Cronkite who is a 4 star kid and his coach says he's got a ND personality. We lost Fla Safety Ben Edwards to Stanford the other day and don't really have another kid who we are leading for right now.
I heard from someone I trust that they read that Sheldon Day is coming back. Has anyone here heard that?
ND <r>Terry,<br/> <br/> Yeah, recruiting probably getting a little up tic from the bowl win and we should finish with a nice class. <br/> <br/> also things are looking good as far as returnees for next season for the guys we currently have:<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE></r>
Pete Sampson confirmed that Golson is going to graduate in May, so he will not be eligible to transfer and participate in the Spring Drills of another school. He said he asked Golson about staying and Golson said " we'll see". I'm guessing that means if Zaire beats him out in the Spring he's gone.
I have mixed emotions, like most I subscribe to the old axiom that you want one guy to seize the job and be the man at QB. But it's always great to have depth at QB, and if Golson stayed he'd be great depth at QB. Next year to have Zaire as the Starter and then nobody who has ever thrown a pass at QB as the backup puts you in a tough position should Zaire get injured. QB Controversy vs QB depth...tough call. That said if I were Golson and wasn't going to be the starter after Spring Drills I'd take my ND degree and transfer somewhere I'd be guaranteed to start. Of course that's what that FSU QB thought when he transferred to Alabama. Texas needs a QB, I'm sure Chuck Martin would install him as the starter at Miami (OH). Not many teams ever survive like Ohio State where they losse the AA starter and replace him with a kid who's never played who becomes an AA candidate and then loses him and the next kid in looks like a future AA as well.
FWIW if you didn't get to see the ND/Ga.Tech game you missed a good one. Irish won in 2OT's, should have won in regulation and then in the first OT. Blew late leads in both. But got the win never the less. In the 2nd OT they had the game won if they just make their FT's (never heard that one have you), but missed 3 out of 4 and just making 1 more would have ended it in the 1st OT. Ladies had a solid win yesterday over FSU. Irish BB both men and women is going to be fun this winter. Ladies should be a top 5 team all season, men should be in the upper half of the ACC and be very competitive all season and make the NCAA's.
I understand that sometimes kids are going to leave, but can we please start recruiting some kids with some sack at ND to play the QB position? I think Zaire has it. I think Rees has it. (yes Sid, I said nice things about Tommy) but I am seriously sick of this 'if I don't start, I'm leaving ND' ********. Seriously, is there another major program that has lost as many QBs to transfer as ND in the past 10 to 15 years?
Just so we're clear, Golson is not transfering, he's graduating. I don't see a realistic shot at the NFL so unless he really likes playing football why shouldn't he graduate and find some way to make a living?
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> Agreed.<br/> <br/> I don't think Golson will tranfser because of the reasons JO'Co stated but I still don't see him as the starter next fall either. <br/> <br/> Zaire will start and Golson will be the backup.</r>
like play football at another school? Maybe he'll go to work, but I can't help but wonder if he doesn't transfer somewhere else. It's been pretty standard for any QB we've had once they lose their shot at the #1 spot... and then the lack of depth always comes back to bite us in the ass.
I don't know if you guys saw this, but Jerry Tillery is switching... to defense. That's a 6'6 315lb defensive lineman http://www.nola.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2015/01/evangels_jerry_tillery_set_to.html
If Golson has any dreams of playing in the NFL he will leave, even if it means going to a much lower level of competition. I think his time here as a starter, barring injury or some kind of blindside scandal to Zaire, is finished.
