Yeah the get the rope crowd is out for Mike Brey now. Hard to imagine he's been here 14 years now. He's a good guy I guess, and he's certainly had some good regular seasons, but he's been terrible in tournament play. His incoming freshman class this year is one of his best with that kid from South Bend being his highest ranked player ever and some other really good players. But losses like this one last night and the one to Indiana State, both good mid-major teams but shouldn't be able to come into ND and win.
Another slightly off topic post. A good friend of mine, Mormon and BYU alum, sent me this article about a BYU family's experience at the ND game,If you have a few minutes, it's a great read for ND faithful: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865592221/BYU-fan-reflects-6-lessons-I-learned-at-Notre-Dame.html
That was a good read Sid, thanks. Over the years I have seen a lot of these sorts of articles from fans/sportswriters covering a visiting team, etc All extremely positive. We tailgated next to a mixed group of Mich State/ND fans at the game this year and everybody had a great time. I don't think I've ever read an article though from a Purdue fan or Michigan fan touting what a great time they had at ND. I'm sure it has more to do with the rivalry than they were treated poorly tough. Just don't want to give props to ND. BTW Texas fans are also very good fans, we always get compliments from everybody but Scott88 who would rather go to a soccer match in Islamabad than a game in Austin!
ND <t>For those(like me) who wonder how the loss of Diaco at DC may effect recruiting, especially on the defense side, this might make you feel a little more at ease. Kelly will be doing a in home visit Thursday eve with the top defensive recruit left on the board for ND, Nyles Morgan, one of the top ILB recruits in the country.</t>
Thanks for the article Sid. It's too bad all is not friendly in Indy. Apparently many of the MSU fans had an unpleasant time inside the stadium last week.
Were those the MSU fans who tried to light their seats on fire after the game since they didn't have any couches near by?
Diaco is trying to take Mike Elston with him to UConn as his DCoordinator. If he goes Kelly and any other coaches leave as well for other jobs, Kelly could end up coaching the game by himself! Not really but it will definitely be a skeleton crew, of course RU fired 3 coaches after the season so they won't have a full staff either.
Gip, I haven't heard about that. My daughter's family went to the game as MSU fans with a family friend who is an MSU alum and former football team member. She did not have any problems other than being in the minority of fans compares to the OSU attendance.
Men's soccer is in the championship game after defeating New Mexico 2-0. With 12 minutes left, Maryland is ahead of Virginia 2-1.
Well good day for the Irish basketballers....The men beat IU in Indy and the Women went to Ann Arbor and thrashed the Wolverines.
Irish picked up two linebackers this weekend, a kid from Illinois named Sykes and a kid from Texas name Hill. Both kids are 3 star by Rivals. We have something like 7 kid who project as potential LB's most of them are 3 star kids...diamonds in the rough we hope. Kelly has done a decent job of developing talent at most positions, so we'll see what happens with these kids.
I have read that Duncan Symthe has had a great pre-bowl camp and is comming on, no doubt one reason Alex Welch looked at the team and decided if he wanted to play next year he needed a new squad with a little less talent. I've also heard that Hendrix would like to come back, his HS coach said something to the effect that it's not a sure thing that Hendrix won't be back...supposedly he and Kelly have not discussed it as yet. I love the kid but the top 2 next year need to be Golson and Zaire, I guess if Hendrix wanted to mainly be a qB in the Spring who helped with the throwing of routes to keep everybody's arm's fresh...fine. But we really need for Zaire to step up and challenge Golson and be a kid who can step in if Golson goes down.
