ND <r>Jif5,<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> Is there any reason we're calling names here? Maybe I missed something?</r>
Yes I think Mack is done whether he wants to be done is another thing....Reports are getting stronger by the hour that Saban will be the next coach...unless he signs a big $ extension with Alabama! BTW: with the money being thrown around here there are a lot of coaches who are going to be getting pay raises out of this!
Yeah you'd have had to known Joel in his ball bustin' hey day...to appreciate how he sort of takes it easy on us now days!! I'd be glad to sit down and share a pint with Joel someday!
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I just don't think Saben will leave Alabama. I have been wrong before though. Makes no difference to me but I'm sure you'd like to see him there if Mack does indeed leave. We'll see. Anyway, this should set off a bunch of coaching changes one way or another.</r>
Not so fast, Joel. You DO have a horse in the college football race. Its name is Notre Dame Schedule. It's dead, but you've been beating it for many years. Well said, as usual, Gip.
Good Morning Joel...very cold here in Houston, I feel like I'm living in the Northeast...36 when I got up!! Are you working on your Final Four prediction yet?
Good morning T !! 28 degrees here...missed a storm yesterday ( the ocean saves us from time to time.) Monster storm on way for Sat/sun. I expect to have my final 4 ready early Feb!! 92 days P & C !
We are suffering here in Florida with 64 lows and 86 degree highs...Feels like summer and believe it or not the "natives" such as myself are bitching because a little cool weather would be nice every now and then...
I know Ralph.... this weather would be so much more appreciated in late Jan/early Feb. but until we get that extended period of cool/cold we just can't appreciate it like we should. For me the memories of going out to my frozen car in the morning and having to start an engine mired in subzero oil with a battered by cold battery.....and having to let the SOB warm up just so the ice on the windshield would melt enough so you could see..... those memories are too vivid for me not to still appreciate a nice warm day even in December.
Yeah Terry we do and that's pretty much what I am bitching about. Because of the above average December temps we have premature bloom on the peaches with no chill hours which means no fruit everywhere it is blooming because the lack of chilling hours. We also need chill hours as well on our citrus to put the trees into dormancy and protect them when we do get an Arctic blast. A chill hour is measured in temperatures between 32 - 45 degrees. Anything below 32 is of no help and temperatures above 60 erodes accumulated chill. The result of the "lack of" chilling hours is delayed and substandard foliation, flowering and fruiting. We are also harvesting our citrus at the moment and the labor & trees are being affected by summer like temperatures. As far as living with icy roads, snow storms and freezing your testicles off, I think I will pass and hope for frigid temps in the 40's..
Wow...Bob Diaco to UConn as thier new Head Coach. Lose both coordinators in less than 2 weeks. Kelly has got a lot of work to do, this has to hurt recruiting at least a little bit, some of the names we are trying hard to get are defensive guys and sometimes you can't get them to commit till they know their coordinator. I did not see that coming. Good luck to him, IMHO UConn is a terrible job for football. Martin got the much better job at Miami.
ND <t>Terry,<br/> <br/> Well I guess the Diaco detractors got their wish. I don't really know how to feel about it. I'm glad he got a HC position but it's gonna be hard to win there no matter who is HC. I thought we did O.K with his defenses(except against the option) for the most part. <br/> <br/> I really don't know how it will effect recruiting on the defensive side of things. Could hurt but a new DC may help also. Depends on who Kelly gets.</t>
Colleges don't have a draft to even up competition but they do have coaching dilution. Lou couldn't completely replace the loss of Barry Alverez. It just happens. You always wonder if HCs are always looking at opponents coordinators and also looking at other programs coaches. The carousel goes round and round...
Coach retention has always been an issue in South Bend. Diaco had a bend-don't break philosophy that depended on turnovers. Last season the defense created a lot of them; this season, not many. This year we gave up buckets of points and endured poor field position for 12 games. I think his stock suffered as a result. Hence, UConn.
Slightly off topic. The men's basketball team played well last night. They almost pulled off the upset of North Dakota State.
