From a well trusted source I hear the players on the Miami team are as pure as the nuns at St. Mary's....We have also played like the nuns at St. Mary's the last couple of years... The rivalry between the Irish and Canes is important depending on how old you are and how long you have followed the teams...There is lots of discussion on Cane forums where older Canes try to explain the rivalry to the younger ones but they just can't seem to understand... Like it or not both the Irish and Canes are big rating divas and if they can ever improve on the field it will carry in big dividends on the TV screen. Ralph
Link to El Paso Times articles on the Sun Bowl. El Paso Times Also regarding ratings, somebody did a study on performance of teams with regard to TV ratings. I have no idea if it is correct or done properly, etc. But the conclusion was that USC performed the best in TV Bowl ratings since 1998, with FSU #2, Notre Dame #3, Miami #4, and Michigan #5. And think about it, the Irish really haven't been very good since 1993, proves something we already knew Bowls like us because we sell tickets and people watch and they are in the business of selling tickets, drawing fans to their city and getting people to watch their game so their advertisers are happy. Think about how happy the Fiesta Bowl is to have OU and UConn this year..it's going to cost them a lot of money. Teams People Watch on TV
Not in the Top 5 obviously. Neither is Penn St. but I'll bet both are not far from #5. I am a little surprised FSU is that far up.....but that is probably more a function of the earlier years of '98-2002 than anything that has happened recently. The rating for these three 2011 games should each be hurt by the other this year: Bama-MSU Mich-MSU UF-PSU. All three are in that 1 ish time slot on New Year's Day.
ND <r>Terry, <br/> <br/> It will be cold by El Paso weather standards but I'm thinking that's a good thing for the Boys from South Bend. <E></E></r>
ND <t>well it looks like the "canes" have their starting QB by default as Morris went down with an injury in practice today so it will be Harris as starting QB.<br/> <br/> The Irish have been practicing at the Socorro Athletic Center(SAC) which is a 11,000 seat field multifunction facility but it's mainly a BIG high school football stadium that's shared by the schools in the Socorro district. It's pretty nice really. The "canes" have been given one of the local high school football fields to run their practices. Irish would seem to have come out on top as far as practice facilities. <br/> <br/> The practices are closed to the public. I did see the Irish entering the SAC facility at around 12:00 and leaving around 2:50 so I guess they got in a good 2 hours of practice today. Nice weather today too, sunny and low 60's.</t>
I read that about Morris, I was hoping he would start over Harris. Count on picking off at least two of his throws in the game he can be a master of the alley oop pass...
I hear ya!!! It seems that both teams carry lots of hope and excitement for the game which is nice. But they both carry the baggage that has limited them from excellence the last couple of years as well.
well I did see a lot of catching being done by our DBs against Stanford and Navy.. of course, we were catching their RBs while we were on our way to our backs but still.
Good win tonight by the Irish Men over a top 10 Georgetown. It was at South Bend where for the last 4 or 5 years the Irish have been very tough to beat. Still excellent win. I will say one thing if you play for Mike Brey you better be in shape because he doesn't substitute very much. Tonight 2 subs played and 1 of the 2 only played 5 minutes. I never quite understood that philosophy, but he's been pretty consistent over his career at ND with the short bench.
I watched the game too. IMHO Brey's short bench is dictated by recruiting. I don't think he can find more than 5-7 ND qualifiers at one time...
Maybe so, I have heard that he does not get the same breaks academically that the football team gets when recruiting.
Nick is a walkon so not likely will he see the field but still to be able to make the trip and suit up would have made his Grandpa proud! On other topics, like recruiting, we are low on OL numbers in the current group of recruits but this kid (Matt Hegarty) is a quality player who I expect to have an excellent career. We just need a few more in this class! Matt Hegarty
