    Terry,

It has become painfully obvious over the years that Dave truly believes that his view is the right one without exception. Any action that appears to disagree with that viewpoint is regarded as an attack and is vehemently opposed by circling the wagons and closing the mind.

I am not saying this to offend Dave. I am trying to intervene in this situation to inform you that you are waging an endless battle. It is better to agree to disagree and watch his last words on the topic because he IS going to get the last word. There could be 100 people looking on while chuckling but he WILL get the last word.

Revel in the fact that there is only one person here that believes the way Dave does.

May all of our teams prosper... yes, even Dave's. (except on that one Saturday in September! )

No reveling just deep, deep disappointment in the fact that it's very difficult, almost impossible to have a reasonable, adult discussion on this forum without it degenerating into or being hijacked by any or all of Gators rule, SEC dominates, Big 10 sucks and Ohio State is unworthy in some way shape or form directly or by inference......it has gone beyond absurd. I'll take your advice.....

TOK, I like MCG also and appreciate his writing style and wit but there may be a wee bit of off-season, revisionist history going on here in the pursuit ofdebating points:

MCG on 1/4 predicting the outcome of the National Championship game:

    vs.

this June 08 love note in his firefight with BT:

    Good catch Bobda!!

Now back to the ND/NBC deal for a moment.

Here's a writer for College Football News, a catholic no less, and his opinion on why the ND/NBC deal is a bad deal for America. My head hurt after reading his tome.

    ND/NBC is bad for America

Bobda....I remember that capitulating moment....definitely one of weakness and condescension and meekness.

BT....to utilize your own criteria recent SEC champs of this decade are 7-5 vs. the Big Ten in the decade.

So I guess that renders your 11-6 stat pretty meaningless huh.

Listen....this is ALL about last year and Ohio State's lack of a real test in a #62 ranked schedule and how it relates to Sept. 13th vs. USC with regard to the NC game worthiness of the Buckeyes.

I haven't been ragging on the whole history of the Big Ten in general....just last year's weakness of the conference.

They were 3-5 in the bowls and OSU lost to the only top 15 ranked team it faced in Illinois.

Why don't we stick to the specifics of last year and how you think it impacts what happens in the Coliseum in September.

    Back at ya Bobda.... :)

Here is a partial post and an SI article from a topic I started on the day before the LSU-OSU game:

Posted: Sun Jan 06, 2008 3:04 pm Post subject: Do or Die for the Buckeye....by SI

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/stewart_mandel/01/04/ohiost.backlash/index.html?eref=si_topstories

This is a pretty good summation of what has been going on in Buckeye land for the past year.

By early Tues. morning we will know if the Buckeyes are relevant to the college football world for the next few years and Buckeye T will also get his wish that finally the 2007 UF-OSU game loses some of it's topical and relevant nature to college football.

If you read the basic contention of this article I think you will see that their conclusion will support what I am saying.

Ohio State MUST show up in this game.

The Ohio State program can ill afford to lay another egg in the national title game and if they do I think it will haunt not only Ohio State when it comes to NC game selection time.....etc etc.

Why don't you just worry about what Fla. MUST do and leave worrying about Ohio State to us?

Fla. can "ill afford" to lay another egg against an also ran from a has-been conference in a "who cares" bowl that doesn't even require them to leave the state of Fla.

After all, this is only about last year, baby.

Think about what you are saying, chum. I would love to see ND reach the title game three times in 4-5 years (can't remember the exact sequence), even if they are beaten soundly in two of them by a team peaking at the right time. OSU clearly has established itself as a national power to be reckoned with. If they are not the consistently strongest program in the country over the past 5 years, who is? Your straw dog issue relating to their schedule last year does not hold up under the scrutiny of what they have accomplished overall and how tough their schedule has been year after year in recent memory.

So what if they reach the title game again and happen to "lay an egg" as you say they can ill afford to do? What then?

Somehow his logic escapes me.....if we are irrelevant, what disparaging words should we use to describe each and every other program in the country none of whom - arguably with perhaps one or two exceptions -have performed at our level.....superfluous drivel. Wonder where he has us rated?

    You guys miss the point.....

The question is not whether or not OSU ascended last season to the top of the national scene in New Orleans and played for all the marbles.

The real question is WHY.... given that noncompetitive schedule and the lack of quality wins. After the fairly siginificant loss to LSU the question is still WHY?

Why?...because we were the only one loss team (except for a couple others that were more suspect)...get over it.

Keep in mind that we didn't sneak in because WV lost...LSU snuck in...it was gonna be WV vs. tOSU... Just get over it...

Yeah, maybe what happened last year will cause some other one-loss team to get passed over for a two...but who knows?...our fault if it happens?...maybe...I can live with it...Get over it, man.

Stu...you do seem to get it albeit begrudgingly. ( can't blame you there )Mandel of SI is a major online sportswriter for college football and he chose to write that article on the eve of the big game and of course I chose to post it because I agree with the premise.

Otherwise....as Corey says this is an ND/NBC topic and I will leave it as such.

    .....speaking of over overfed....longhaired....leaping gnomes.....

Is that the Irish O-line's theme song?

    Spill the wine boys..... :D

Tom, I appreciate your perspective....I think it's important to differentiate between the last "word" and the last post. The last "word" carries with it a connotation of something of a meaningful nature that is credible and adds some value to the discussion.....the last word on this topic was conveyed eons ago.....the last post however, often contains meaningless drivel with no basis in fact, little or no quality thought and juvenile intent such as the following "last post":

Sid is right below when he says my post bordered on meanspirited because it was true but a hurtful truth and I decided that the points have already been made and now it's time to sit back and see how the season plays out.

If OSU beats USC then it's a whole new ballgame and new opinions will be formed by all including me.

If they don't and especially if they aren't as competitive as they need to be then things will take care themselves.

What in the hell are you talking about? No one here, especially the OSU people, has even hinted that there is any doubt that LSU was the best team on the field that night. In fact the OSU people have been complete gentlemen and good sports, as they were when Florida beat them the year before.

The above statement is only a portion of a post that is clearly inflammatory. It crosses the line from needling to mean-spirited baiting. The entire post is contradictory to the spirit of this board.

Where are you, moderators? Take control here.

    Sid,

it's all complete and utter bullsh!t....what you are hearing are the cries of pain from an anguished fan trying to come to grips with a 4 loss loser to an unworthy also ran from an inferior conference in a meaningless bowl game desparately attempting to make himself feel better by trying to belittle the accomplishments of others by way of fantasy and ridiculous self defined truths in an incessant, classless and juvenile manner. It would seem that medication would be the far more polite alternative....by comparison, he makes Gonzo seem like Emily Post.

    Where is the escape part?
