Good point. The last SEC team to travel up here was Tennessee on a home/home basis. Over the last 10-20 years, we've had home/home games with LSU, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. Can't recall if there were others. That certainly would help our SOS, wouldn't it?

I would venture that ND is in the same boat as OSU...they could lose to Purdue but still play in the NC game as long as they win the rest and beat USC.... 8)

That's pretty simple for an independent to say there George...

If I am the AD at Florida for instance I am only concerned about the schedule ranking and when it is consistently in the top 10 in the nation then why would I make changes to make it tougher just to please fans in other parts of the country?

This year UF plays Hawaii, Miami and FSU out of conference in addition to the "paycheck" school The Citadel.

Should UF exchange The Citadel for a game at Notre Dame when for instance there are teams that are revered and admired here on Skybox for their "tough" schedule...teams that make the NC game like Ohio State last year who managed to play Youngstown State and Akron as real toughies and of course the eventual 4-9 Huskies of Washington as the "marquee" juggernaut on the slate. I know...I know the Big Ten made up for everything last year because they were so...so enormously difficult as a conference and had fierce teams like Illinois who were the highest ranked team the Buckeyes faced all year believe it or not ( doesn't Ron Zook coach there?)

There are teams in the SEC that travel. Tennessee, Georgia and LSU come to mind.

This is such an old...old argument....it gets old.

Georgia hasn't traveled in a bazillion years....nice try...you're talking about this year only? At least they do play Ga Tech annually.

Tenn plays nobody outside of the conference annually of any note so it's a damned good thing they do travel and also travel is important for Tenn because their recruiting base is more national and recruit pickings are much slimmer in the state of Tenn than in Florida.

    LSU...see Tenn above....

I'll tell you what...you take the team of your choice and at the end of the year if their record is identical to Florida's I'll bet on Florida being higher ranked in the BCS than your team who "travels".... 8)

"Travel" would infer the present based on the tense, que no?

I don't know if there is anyone that can go from zero to indignant as quickly as you.

My apologies Rick but this issue of Florida traveling has been coming up for the last 15 years and every year Florida has a very competitive schedule as is.

Asking this question of Florida is like asking a brain surgeon if he does root canals also just for the challenge.... :D

.....could you remind us again what your Gators record against the Big 10 was last year? Somehow it always seems to get lost in your unique logical constructs.

Chad Henne, Mario Mannigham, Adrian Arrington and Mike Hart all had great talents and all were healthy and had career type games vs. Florida and it was one of Michigan's best wins and certainly ranks as one of their top bowl wins and was a terrific retirement send-off for a most respected and admired long time coach Lloyd Carr.

Florida had a lot going against it there for a team that had flaws on defense with very young players.

At least UF caught them healthy and we got to see the real Michigan....which is a great college football program no question.

You want to curiously ignore that Michigan was seriously compromised injury wise when OSU came to AA.

On the other hand I'm not comparing UF's season straight up with Ohio State last year either. OSU was most likely better than Florida last year but hey the Gators didn't have any claim on playing for the NC as did OSU and UF wasn't even a BCS bowl team.

I think you saw the SEC's best last year in New Orleans and it wasn't Florida.

You keep wanting to hang your hat on this one game UF had vs. Michigan as THE SEC-Big Ten test without acknowledging any surrounding circumstances so go ahead.

I think you know what happens when you catch Florida's best......

So, Florida football is analagous to brain surgery? And to ask whether the team travels is absurd?

I know you get what I am saying BDR...

Why add to a schedule challenge that is already one of the toughest by NCAA standards year after year and especially when financially it makes no sense?

If USC traveled to Tallahassee in the years that Florida has had to (when FSU was FSU especially) don't you think the Trojans would have been touted as being fearless....blah...blah...blah?

Same for Tenn or Oklahoma or Ohio State or whoever....

This year UF adds Miami and last year's Sugar Bowl participant Hawaii to the non-con schedule. I think it's amazing we are even having this discussion with regard to the UF schedule this year......because in case you forgot Florida does have the little matter of potentially 9 SEC opponents to deal with as well. Ask Ohio State how tough it is to defeat an SEC opponent! :D

    Yeah, S.O.S.

And I don't mean strength of schedule.
Then why did you broach the topic?

Thanks for admitting that his remarks weren't specific to Florida. That was your doing.

    And on it goes...

I'm not sure what you mean by the statement that Tennessee plays nobody out of conference anually of note. I'm assuming you mean that they don't have a running serious like Florida does with Florida St. You are correct. Tenn does attempt to play at least one very tough non-conference game per season. The Vols also choose not to schedule the I-AA patsies that most major programs (UF and OSU included) choose to feast on. I do, however, think that changes in the next year or two. You are correct about Tennessee having to recruit nationally.
I strongly disagree with this statement. The talent level in high school football in Louisiana is much better than that in Tennessee as this article attests to number of NFL players born by state.

    http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/sh...8/04/14/best_high_school_football_states.html

I, for one, have no problem with Florida's schedule. I also think OSU tries to schedule difficult non-conference tests although last year that test really wasn't there. However, the OSU-Texas battles and the OSU-USC battle this year would be more indicative of OSU's non-con schedule than last year.
