http://www.purduesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/032817aab.html The following surprised me a bit. Anybody know who is first? Duke? UNC?
According to Wikipedia, which may or may not be accurate, it's Kansas (29), followed by North Carolina (27), with Purdue and Kentucky tied for 3rd (26). It's interesting that the 5th place team is Penn (24) with its last AA in 1953. This shocked me....ND is 6th (23), followed by UCLA (22), Duke and Wisconsin (21 each), with Columbia (19) rounding out the top ten. These are selections with many players selected more than once. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Men's_Basketball_All-Americans
AP's all time Top 100. Shocker Kentucky is #1 , UNC #2, Duke #3, UCLA #4 and KU #5. Irish are #18. Most of the top 25 are not surprises. http://collegebasketball.ap.org/top-100
Congrats to soon-to-be B10 hockey brother Notre Dame on making it into the Frozen Four. Only non 1st seeded team to make it.
Bob have you heard anything about North Dakota joining the B1G Hockey League? Also how in the hell did Penn State build such a good Hockey program in such a short time?
There have been rumors about the B10 extending an invite to No. Dak this summer with Minnesota Duluth or Nebraska Omaha being alternatives if No. Dak refuses PSU been pretty remarkable since switching from club to varsity status. i thought they would have a tough time recruiting given all of the good teams in the East but since fielding a team in the B10, their teams have more than their fair share of talent.
While I'm not sure ND Hockey fans are thrilled to be in the B1G Hockey League, they weren't exactly enamoured with Hockey East either. Most long for the old days of the CCHA. It certainly does make a lot of sense though for travel.
With further expansion, Big 10 hockey will be far better than what the CCHA was. If they can convince No. Dak. to join, their great rivalry with Minnesota would reignite and really add some luster and energy to the league. Hope they would consider quality smaller schools like Minesota Duluth and Miami of Ohio.
Wow!! Mississippi State takes down mighty UCONN with a buzzer beater in OT. 111 game winning streak ends.
   To quote Vin Scully, "In a year that has been so improbable; the impossible has happened."
A great win for Mississippi State and a good thing for women's basketball at the same time IMHO. UCONN lost with grace and that was a plus as well.
A local sportstalk radio station interviewed the Miss St. Women's BB coach on Wednesday. Very down to earth but also quietly confident. UConn embarrassed MSU last year so I'm sure this win was doubly satisfying.
I was pleasantly surprised by this article. The ACC will make more than $100 million over the past 3 years with its tournament runs, as explained in the article below. In second place is the Big 10 ($75 million). Say what you want about the ACC being overrated this year. The conference earned its seeds with its regular season play (Can you say RPI?). Except for UNC, the teams just didn't perform up to their regular season accomplishments. The money is split evenly among all conference members, so even the teams that didn't make the tournament are winners. http://www.cbssports.com/college-ba...n-from-ncaa-tournament-runs-last-three-years/
I watched the UConn/MSU game and I'd say that the coach had a right to be quietly confident. They played a great game and that little guard of theirs was the star of the night. It came down to a couple of plays in the 2nd OT. Flagrant 1 foul on MSU with like 25sec left in the OT and MSU up by 2, UConn's Sameulson quietly sank 2 FT's to tie and with a Flagrant 1 they also got possession. Which meant that they got the last shot, or at least should have gotten the last shot. But for some reason a UConn player lost her patience and tried to drive the hoop with about 15 secs on the clock and was out of control and lost the ball. Now it was MSU with the ball and the clock for the last shot, the little dynamo for MSU controlled the ball and got the last shot off .1 sec's before the buzzer and it went in for the win. One of the better Womens basketball games I've seen. All SEC Final now and the UConn streak is over. It had to end sometime. But after last years 60 point beat down you had to figure UConn was a lock to win this game, but MSU came out and took control from the start and played a great game.
Great first game, So Car looked dead in the water and then their defense turned up a notch and they went on a big run to make it great game. But the Zags responded and got the lead back and wins it at the end.
Unbelievable finish in the UNC game. Tar Heels bricked 4 straight free throws but the ducks couldn't come up with a rebound to make them pay. UNC vs Gonzaga. Go Zags.
