Guys like Kelly and Stoops are always another loss or two from feeling the "noise" in the system because of the nature of the programs they coach at.

With a fresh start at Florida they know they have a couple of years initially anyway without that "noise".

If they were winning like gangbusters and satisfying the fan base in their current shools immensely they wouldn't consider a change in my opinion.

Stoops is out. Kelly wouldn't surprise me, actually. I don't agree that he'd get any time. Big time programs don't give you time, they give you an opportunity. You better show something and then show something more or they'll take that opportunity away from you.

I will say this, no ND coach in my lifetime has had all of his demands met more than Kelly. He's a guy who has made lots of demands, and unlike previous coaches, he's received damned near everything he'd asked for. If that guy leaves? Meh.. see ya.

All you can give someone is your everything. If that's not good enough for them, f*ck em.

I have actually thought about that possibility Terry but who would be the coach in waiting? LK?

LK could probably use a little Spurrier mentoring after getting his take on Saban too.

Maybe Kiffie would actually be a good head coach by then instead of an unproven wonderboy which he has only been so far.

My reaction to that rumor is, what coach considered worthy of being the Florida head coach is going to want to spend 1-2-3 years under Spurrier? Plus, why would Florida want to hire a guy who only qualifies to be second fiddle for 1 to 3 years? I doesn't make sense.

The only one I could think of would be Kiffin.... with a bit more seasoning under Spurrier and acclimation to the Florida prgram.

Kiffin is like the Cheezit commercials..... his "not ready" box is checked....

    ...for now.

Well it worked to a degree for FSU, they hired Jimbo Fisher to the coach in waiting...the problem is that they didn't consult Bobby Bowden who didn't really want to retire. That is why they ended up forcing him out, Jimbo was holding their feet to the fire, you promised me I'd be the head coach and unless something gives I'm just going to be Bowdens OCoord till he wants to retire so I'm going to take a HC job if offered. Screw this waiting for Bobby to retire.

That is exactly what happened to Muschamp at Texas, Mack fully expected to contend for the NC in 2010 and use that as his fairwell to Texas and Will would take over. But 2010 went in the tank and Mack didn't want to leave until he was leaving after a big successful season. So eventually Will said screw it I've got a good offer here why wait till they get Mack out.

Dana Holgerson was the Coach in Waiting at WVa, except they didn't clear it with Bill Stewart and he didn't want to give up the job and he didn't even want Holgerson as his OCoord. They had to fire Stewart of course and there was more than a little acrimony.

Tricky business that coach in waiting.

You know who the original coach in waiting was right? Jerry Sandusky, he was supposed to take over for JoePa, he of course retired and JoePa continued to coach for 10 or 15 years after he retired. I forget the guy who took over for Sandusky, but he was the next guy who was going to take over for Paterno but unfortunately for him he got caught up in the Sandusky scandal and nobody would touch him.

Yeah the new guy at Florida would get a lot of time, about to the first loss. :(

I am not sure Stoops is out.

I am sure Chip Kelly would be at the top of the list if he wanted to leave the NFL.

Man, rehashing the FSU situation really reminded me of what a POS Jimbo is.. not that we haven't seen that for ourselves here. Not that I'm a fan of any Bowden, but still.

I just can't see Florida doing the coach in waiting thing, nor can I see SOS' ego ever allow him to be a baby sitter. He's got better **** to do.

BTW Dave, that comparison between Kiffin and a Cheezit that's not ready is actually fantastic. Well done.

Dave, I mean that. I wish I had come up with that line.
