Eight more US dead today as we play perfectly into the hands of Al Qaeda. Using little or no technology, we tee our troops up perfectly for snipers and suicide bombers. Urban warfare, up close against an enemy that cannot be seen. The USAF and Navy are basically sitting this out while the Army and Marines go back for third and fourth tours. And these poor kids are like the British in our ware of independence, marching down the road in uniform, dodging IEDs and bullets from an unseen enemy. All this to protect a puppet government that can't find its ass with both hands. What the hell is going on here?
Good post George......it's ******** that is going on that's what. It reeks of a desperate effort in saving one's own political ass to me. You know....if the Pentagon announced that they were pulling all troops out of everywhere in Iraq and especially Baghdad and moving them up to protect the oil fields and refineries and shipping ports in order to facillitate oil export to the U.S. we might all accept that and cheer for that. As it is....it's ******** to be sure.
Who's political ass is being saved? Bush has no future so it ain't him. The only branch of government held in lower esteem than Bush at the moment is the Democratically controlled Congress so Its too late for them too.
How about his legacy then although it may be too late for that. He is the leader of the Republican party so it's their ass too. The Dems are not in trouble over this vs. Republicans but maybe they are vs. less pro-war Democratic challengers to their seats.
wrong <t>its 'our' ass. he is not the Republican President, he is ours. In this day and age of Fox vs CNN. Drudge vs Sludge, Al Gore vs the Electoral College we have lost site of that. We hang the war on Bush while allowing others to claim they never backed this war without so much as even a mark on their character for lying.<br/> <br/> My answer to this, as it has been all along, is to make war terrible. Make to so totally completely awful for the regimes and organizations who are backing the internal revolution going on in Iraq that they will be either risking their own political or actual lives by bringing opposition to the United States. I would have preferred that we lay waste to all that stand in opposition, and then walk away to let the Iraqi people form their own government. If Iran sets up shop, let it be known that we've been their twice and we have no problem coming back a 3rd time. If you are going to impose your will, than f'ing impose it. Don't half ass it.</t>

This I agree with. The problem is that these bastards...being the extremists that they are.....do not seem to care enough who gets killed or who gets their palaces destroyed. My answer to that is destroy 'em anyway until they get the picture.
