Tigers finish selling off rentals. Yeo Cespedes traded to the Mets for 2 pitching prospects. Tigers have trades their best starter, only consistent bull pen pitcher and their best all around outfielder. Kind of strange that a team that should have been in the race but wasn't got rid of the players who contributed most to their total of wins. What's left is the cause of this year's disappointment (excepting Miggy of course.) So now the minor system, depleted by trades over the past few years has been restocked. The season ticket holders will see an inferior product for the next couple of months, but the owner will be making money.
Thanks to the Dodgers for sweeping the Angels while we swept the DBacks...lead is back up to 4 games. 9 game road trip coming up though, Texas, Oakland and a 2 game set with the Giants before coming home.
  The Angels are a formidable group. That part of their lineup with Calhoun-Trout-Pujols made me squirm every time it came around. Although we swept them, I was still glad to see them leave town... - Biggest surprise of the year (besides the Astros) are the Cubs. They have a fine young team and they could give somebody a wicked upset before the season is done. - How are the Yankees scoring all these runs?
Remember the Big Glove? I'd forgotten about them... http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/13355516/how-major-league-baseball-deflated-glove-scandal-1990
The Yankees were picked by many to finish fourth. Some had them last. Lots of power, lots of speed in key slots in the order and lots of switch hitters. They are impossible to pitch around and they have a very strong bull pen. Starting pitching is a real weakness. But bottom line is without Alex Rodriguez they are probably no better than third place at this point.
  re: glove size Outfielder's gloves were getting ridiculous back then. BTW- have you ever seen an infielder's glove? Modern infielders can make all these whiz-bang plays, because their gloves are smaller... MUCH smaller than when I played...
Wow...Rangers jumped all over us last night. Adrian Beltre became only the 4th MLB player in history to hit for the cycle 3 times in his career. I never knew it was that uncommon.
Yankees are ringing the bell again tonight. Another 13 runs thru seven against the Red Sox. And the Bombers seem to have a new second baseman, WB Mason.
Cubs? Still above .500 and in the race for a wild card. Sid, what's fueling this, good management? Lots of young players? Rebuilding?
Two words. Joe Maddon. I was really happy to see him leave the AL East. Every year he put a good team on the field in Tampa. One hell of a manager.
T !!! just say your post!! You probably read about our MICROBURST here in Cranston...Ive been around a long time...never saw such destruction since the hurricaine of '38...power just came back yesterday...trees ripped right off the lawns WITH the lawns still attached! a microburst comes out of the thunder clouds STRAIGHT down at 85MPH. Glad you're OK, Joel. Having no electricity in 90 degree heat can be dangerous. You toughed it out. I hope that's the end of your rough weather.
