Need lists with Dodgers on them? How about this one: 25 HR, and 40 doubles by a rookie. Corey Seager is over those numbers now with a BA of .317. Here are the others... http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/share.cgi?id=pbUJ4
Tribe clinches it's first Division Title since....2007. All three AL Div winners were solid with 2nd place teams distant. Astros I guess not totally out of it, but it would take a bizzare finish to over take the Blue Jays and the Orioles. I think I'll root for the Tribe in the Post Season.
Unfortunately for the Tribe, they probably won't be playing the Tigers in the post season. Cleveland was 13-2 vs the Tigers and single handedly was responsible for the Tigers missing the post season.
Tim Tebow hits a homerun in his first professional at bat! Of course it's in a Fall Instructional League game....a long way from even AA.
Tribe in a bit of pitching problem. Carrasco and Salazaar (#2 and #3) out with injuries. Kluber (#1) out for a week or so with a quadriceps strain...hopefully will be ok when playoffs start. Looking at a 3 man rotation. The key might be Tomlin, who showed signs of fatigue in August but after skipping some starts appears to be back. Bullpen should be strong. Yan Gomes was catching in his last rehab game before returning from shoulder injury and broke his hand (hit by pitch)...might be able to see some limited action. Of course Brantley has been out for the season. It's a wonder we have done so well. Francona deserves serious consideration for post season recognition for the patching together he's done with this team.
Cards got the call from the Blues last night, won them the game. I know a lot of people don't like instant replay interfering with the game...but that was so obvious I can't believe they didn't intervene and tell them it was a ground rule double. If the Cards make the playoffs that blown call by the Blues will be the reason.
  Dodgers experimented with lineups and tryouts for the playoff roster and lost all three to Frisco as everyone said goodbye to Vin Scully. Today was the 80th anniversary of the day he fell in love with baseball...as a Giants fan. He lived near the Polo Grounds in NY and his hero was Mel Ott. The Giants gave him a big send-off up north, which was nice. The Wild card game is Mets vs. Frisco. The Dodgers open at Washington DC on Friday...
Cards fan I play golf with isn't very happy with the Dodgers lack of effort vs the Giants this weekend. But he said the Cards weren't going anywhere this year anyway so not really that unhappy. I see that the guy who won the NL batting title sat out the weekend to preserve his leave, not the first time it's been done that's for sure but the guy who was .001 behind him wasn't playing either. Jose Altuve wins the AL batting title, he didn't really have anybody close to him this year.
The Cubs weren't in the same situation as the Dodgers playing a possible wild card team, but a few veterans grumbled that Maddon was acting like it was spring training the way he was juggling the lineups. Maddon didn't flinch. He's got the successful playoff experience necessary to know how to handle his roster following the clinching of a division championship as he prepares them for the playoffs.
Indians get home field advantage. Jan Gomes finally gets back and hits a home run in his first game and helps clinch it. Not sure if he's healthy enough for Francona to put him in the playoff roster. I'm still worried about the pitching injuries. It's Stu's team against Jif's...I emailed him...was good to hear from him!
I saw that shortly after the Jays O's game, someone got into Ubaldo Jimenez' wiki page and edited to say "Bats: Right Throws: Cockshots" Looks like his agent's team has gone back in to edit that back. Buck is going to have some questions to answer because he went with the arm matchup instead of the best pitcher in that situation. Last night's game was a classic IMHO and really shows the importance of patience at the plate to jack up the pitch count. They never did knock Thor out of the game, they just out waited the Mets.
How about their first opponent, the Cubs? I know I'm nervous. The Giants have been there before. Under Bruce Bochy, they know how to win in the post season.
The Cubs hitters have worn out starting pitchers all year. during every game I watched this year, it seemed as if the opposing pitcher had thrown 100 pitches by the fifth inning. The Giants relievers have been torched during the second half of the season. I know anything can happen in a short series but the Cubbies have been a flesh eating beast all year with no discernible weakness and suspect Maddon has them ready to rip away for the postseason.
I hope you're right, Bobda. All 8 teams at this level have solid starting pitching and decent relief pitching. My concern is the bats going silent. Intellectually, I agree with you that they should propel the team via a prolific offense, but in my heart, I'm shaking in my boots that something's going to go wrong.
I've been thinking of who I'm rooting for in the NL, and the winner is the Cubs! Cubs vs Indians is my hope for the WS. Lake Erie vs Lake Michigan, the I90 Series! Have to go with my AL brothers for the WS, unless it's Boston then I'll default back to the NL!
I also would like the Cubs to play the Indians in the WS. Although I'm a lifelong NLer, I've always liked the Indians and have cheered for them in the WS in the past. Having said that, I just want the Cubs get there regardless of the opponent. P.S. Terry, I'm sure the Cubs appreciate your support.
