JO'CO how surprised are you that Puig is being called back up to the Dodgers?

That's pretty amazing, as good if not better than that no look catch by the pitcher a week or so ago.

I was shocked that they brought Puig back. It has leaked out that the Dodgers turned down a straight Puig for Ryan Braun trade with the Brewers. The Dodgers want more than that. Perhaps they're show-casing him to get more in trade. All I know is that Dodger Dogs don't want him and I would trade him straight across for a bag of peanuts and a batting glove...

The Dodgers magic number is 19. They have a five game lead...

They swept a four game series with the Rockies starting a rookie pitcher in all four games. They now go out on their longest road trip of the year...

    Kershaw returns tomorrow...

Indians magic number is also 19. They have a 6 game lead over Detroit. Their next 23 games are against division opponents.

The Tribe has had 5 pitchers with at least 11 wins only four times; in 1908, 1921, 1954, and 2016.

In 1954 their names were Feller, Wynn, Lemon, Garcia, and Houtemann.

I hope the Indians make it to the WS. I cheered for them in 1954 vs. the Giants, but it didn't help.

A little controversy in the game between the Astros and Indians, a foul tip was missed by the blues...Astro Mgr got tossed, and a bunch of runs were let in...

Astros have the Cubs coming, and then the Rangers. It's going to be tough to make the wildcard, will take a very strong finish probably have to win something in the neighborhood of 88 games to have a shot. But I'm ok if we don't make it, we've played some young guys and they've looked pretty good and didn't trade away any young talent to get a rental player.

Terry, everybody saw that it hit the bat except the 4 umpires. But their hands were tied because that's not reviewable.

I don't think it's that big of a deal, and you guys hammered us pretty good anyway..but I'm surprised that neither the 1st or 3rd base umps caught it.

Plus while I like replay, you can't review everything. Game would be way too long. Plus, Plus, it's good for a Mgr to get the heave ho every once in awhile...too bad you can't kick dirt on them anymore. :)

    re: Frisco

Their collapse is beyond mysterious. In the first half, they had a lot of injured players and they had the best record in baseball. After the All-Star break, all of their injured players returned and they've nosedived to the worst record in baseball. Hey, hey! It looks like my voodoo curse worked!

Bumgarner and Puig...what's the history of the bad blood there JO'Co?

Has Puig been rehabilitated and now back in the good graces of the Dodgers?

    :!:

Puig and Bumgarner have a long history of bad blood. Years ago, Bumgarner hit Puig with a pitch. When Puig glared at him, Bumgarner started shouting "don't look at me!" This precipitated a full-scale brawl. The two of them have been at each others throats ever since. Last night it happened again. On a close play at first base, Bumgarner again shouted "don't look at me!" and both benches emptied with Yasiel challenging the punk who was then removed from the game. I had several students there last night, and they provided me with a full report.

Before tonight's game, the entire Dodger team wore t-shirts that said, "Don't look at me!" Only the Giants could cause the Dodgers to rally around Yasiel Puig. It's that time of year...

Puig had that shirt delivered to the Giant's locker room, I guess everybody thought it was funny but Bumgarner. I think it was funny.

Tonight Puig looked like Clemente out there, with spectacular throws to the plate; climbing the wall catches and a 3-run HR. You can almost hear the Dodgers dugout from here... "Don't look at that Cuban trotting around the bases!" "Don't look at the scoreboard!" "Don't look at those standings!"

Roberto Perez throws out Terrence Gore (who was 17 of 17 on SB attempts) with no outs in ninth and a one run lead to pretty much take the steam out of the Royals comeback attempt. Was a hell of a throw and everybody in the ballpark knew he was going to steal.

    Magic number 5.

Looking at league leaders in various categories... Red Sox have seem to have 2 or 3 guys in the top 5 of them all. Dodgers have nobody in the top 5.

    Good play by Perez.

Barring collapses, the 6 division winners should be Boston, Cleveland, Texas, Washington, Chicago, and LA. Both wild card races are red hot, with 4 clear contenders in the AL (Toronro, Baltimore, Detroit, and Houston) and possibly New York. As of today, it's a tie in the NL among NY, St. Louis, and SF.

Lots of fun - and angst - over the next couple of weeks as the race for the wild card comes down to the end of the season.
