Re: Giants. Maybe there's something to the notion of team-inspired momentum, as a group wanting to make their manager's last hurrah something special. Re: Pirates. Our Indianapolis Indians are the Pirates' AAA farm club. I've been to one game this season, and no player stood out to me - at least statistically - as a can't miss MLB prospect.
Sanchez getting right to work, will start Saturday night vs Seattle here in Houston. Greinke doesn't get a start till Tues vs the Rockies.
The thing about the Giants is that they kinda remind me of that Marlins team that won the World Series years back. They are loaded with experienced veterans who are on the dovetail of their career, plus they have some exciting younger players (like Baby Yaz) and things are starting to come together. All they gotta do is get in. However, they play in the same division as the boogeyman so that will be tough.
No but it's not particularly unfriendly either. Right and right center wall should work well for himl
Cool story. I saw this featured on the evening news. Fan who threw 96 mph at in-stadium radar booth signs contract with A's
I'll be able to watch the Dodgers tonight and play the home edition of 'What the F*** is Dave Roberts doing now?'
Frisco does have some things...like an ace and a Hall of Fame manager... I do agree with you guys, however, I thought they were as dead as old Marley's ghost.
Astros now have 12 as a franchise in the 50 years of existence, 1 more than the Yankees have in over 100 years.
Shane Bieber now leads the majors in complete games (yeah...only three) and yesterday became the fastest pitcher to get 300 strikeouts in club history...except Herb Score.
Herb Score...that's a name you don't hear very much. What might have been except for that line drive by Gil McDougal.
Justin Verlander joins Bob Gibson and Pedro Martinez as pitchers with 9 seasons of 200 strikeouts. Leader of course is Nolan Ryan with 15 seasons.
Re: Herb Score. I remember him well. I thought he would become one of the greatest lefties in the game. It might have been if not for the devastating eye injury in 1957. He eventually recovered 20/20 vision but he was never the same on the mound, understandably. He became the play-by-play announcer for the Indians from 1964 to 1997. He died at in 2008 at age 75 from the lingering effects of a stroke suffered in 2002. My feeble memory was aided by Wikipedia.
I don't count "group" no hitters. But that is just me. Yankees just obliterated the Red Sox and basically ended their season. They have completely punked Chris Sale twice in the last ten days; last year he spent the whole season yelling taunts at the Yankees from the dugout. This season he slinks off the field like a wet dog. And last night they took it out on their most reliable punching bag, David Price. On the down side, they have 16 guys on the IL again. CC is likely finished. Their two best pitchers ( Severino and Betances ) have not seen the field all year. You could take the guys on the IL and win most divisions in baseball.
Joel informs me that the Skybox is no longer user friendly. Joel like many of us is not comfortable with change!
