4 am?....so what....back in the 80's we'd roll in at 0230 drunk as fugch... up at 0515 for 0530 PT...at work by 0730...pt'd again over chow.....hit the gym after work....chowed....repeated the process.... But you didn't get to your 5 star hotel until 0400....pussies.
Ken Giles was lights out last night, tonight he was knocked out. Such is the risk when he is the closer. When he went out to pitch the top of the 9th in a magniifcently pitched game by Verlander...I feared the worst and that's what I got.
The Yankees score runs in bunches and their are no easy outs so all it takes is one or two bad pitches and .... On the flip side they strike out WAY too much and their defense has been poor to date.
Yankee pitching has shut down Houston bats. Lance McCullers Jr today on the mound for the Astros. Lance has been very good with one exception this year. So we'll see if we can get the split. BTW what do you guys think of the stuff Trevor Bauer is saying about sticky substances. He implies the Astros pitchers are doing it and MLB is turning the blind eye to it, then he says he's not really accusing the Astro pitchers of anything.
He's saying half the pitchers in baseball are doing it so why not allow it? Think he'll get checked a few times now?
I guess the Rosin bag doesn't help enough and the stick substance pitchers must prefer is the Pine Tar that Michael Pineda of the Yankee's was caught with on his neck a few years ago. He was pretty blatant about where he put it, I'd suspect that if MLB pitchers are using it in 2018 they are pretty crafty about where they hide it on their person. Question to me is if it were legalized how would that impact the game? A little or a lot. Last biggie with regards to pitching was lowering the mound after the '68 season when Gibson had a 1.12 era, Louis Tiant had a 1.62 era and Dodger pitchers ( who reportedly had the highest mound in baseball) threw 6 shutouts in a row. They lowered the mound in 1969.
Yankees came, saw and conquered. Astros starters were fine, bullpen blew 2 games and Yankees pitching was very good in this series. Astros have to get the closer situation figured out.
8) Dodger pitchers have thrown a combined no-hitter against the mighty San Diego Padres in a game played in Monterrey, Mexico. Rookie fireballer Walker Buehler overmatched every hitter for six innings and relief pitchers did the rest. The Dodgers have now beaten the Pads in three different stadiums this year as their fans turn every venue into a home game... Thank God for the San Diego Padres... BTW- the most popular American team in Mexico is the New York Yankees; #2 is the Los Angeles Dodgers; and the San Diego Padres are #8.
Congratulations to Albert Pujols for becoming the 32nd MLB player to reach the 3,000 hit mark for his career. IMO his overall list of accomplishments makes him HOF worthy. Among them, this tidbit from MLB News: P.S. The fastest player to reach 3,000 hits was Ty Cobb, who got it in his 2,135th game at the age of 34 (Baseball Reference).
Was it really worth it losing 3 hours of sleep, just to watch the Cards sweep the crubbies? That's a stupid F#@%$&g question AJ.
Molina is resting at home. He is in good spirits but a little swollen. Thinks he will be better at blocking the plate now. On the Ten Year Disabled list.
From an article that says Trevor Bauer has given this staff something to chew on each time they go out. For the most part this Astros staff has been outstanding as starters, wish I could say the same about our bullpen.
The same problem exists for the Cubs' staff. With the exception of Yu Darvish, the starters are pitching well. Relievers not so much.
