Fan interference in the Rockies/Astros game last night, Bregman hit a triple off the wall but replay showed a Astros fan reached for the ball and deflected it. They called Bregman out, he was pissed. I saw the replay myself and it does look to me like he reached into playing territory to attempt to get the ball. Hard to say if the outfielder would have made the catch. Bullpen blew another one for the Astros in the bottom of the ninth ...it's going to be the death of us in the playoffs unless we get it fixed.
Yankee's bolster their starting rotation? I guess. http://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/24202308/average-ish-happ-low-cost-upgrade-yanks
Hello Krebs!! <r><E></E> Well.watch for the KREBMAN to surface soon...Crankies opened their wallets again!</r>
Astros down their best 2 players Altuve and Correa...and got swept by the Rangers. We were 68-36 at this point last year, 67-40 this year. Picked up a relief pitcher from the Twins, he was put to work right away and gave up a HR to the first guy he faced! We gave up a couple of good minor league prospects. No timetable for Correa's return and Altuve is on the 10 day DL.
I see another pitcher, Sean Newcombe, has been found to have made offensive tweets as a teenager. I wonder how much work it is to go through years of Twitter posts for every MLB player just to find out if they have said something in the past that they shouldn't have said?
If I were the agent of any player, one of the top items on my agenda would be to make sure that the player's social media accounts were reviewed and all offensive content deleted. I am so glad Twitter and Facebook had not yet been invented when I was a teenager.
Astros make a head scratch of a deal for the Toronto relief pitcher Osuna who has been suspended 75 games for domestic violence. Team previously has had a zero tolerance for domestic violence. Both Verlander and McCullers had some pretty caustic tweets back when he was accused. I hope this doesn't cause a locker room problem, we've had a good chemistry on this club.
Pretty brutal article on the Astros trade and a similar one by a local writer. I just don't get this trade. Not that people can't change, admit their wrong doing, get help and move on and become better people...but it seems like we should have passed on him. On my Texas board somebody posted that there is expectation that he's basically going to get off on this. I guess that's a good thing, I don't know though. Is he going to get off because she refused to testify and can't be found now. That smells of payoff. https://www.yahoo.com/amphtml/sports/trading-roberto-osuna-houston-astros-show-no-conscience-134758777.html?__twitter_impression=true&guccounter=1
Your GM must have channeled the spirit of Al Davis to make this trade. From strictly a baseball standpoint, the Astros addressed their major weakness by trading for an elite, 23-year-old closer and gave up only a modest amount to obtain. Compare this trade with the immense amount of young talent the Cubs gave up to obtain Chapman, also an accused violent abuser, for only two months. When that trade was made, Chicago's media blasted the trade saying it was immoral to trade for an alleged criminal regardless of the fact that he was best closer in baseball. After Chapman helped them win their first WS in over 100 years, there very few comments made about Chapman's past during the media celebration of a WS championship.
Dodgers made a good move right at the bell. It's pretty clear they are all in on the World Series this year.
I'm usually the one answering this question but now its your turn. What is the Dodgers payroll? One of these years you have to win it all. 8)
I suspect that will be the same for Osuna if the Astros make it back to the WS and he solidifies our BP. I would like it if he would donate the remainder of his 2018 salary to local Houston women's shelter, that might go a long way to convincing people he's changed and remorseful.
MLB Salaries 2018 1. rSox 227M 2. Giants 206M 3. Dodgers 195M ...Dodgers dumped a lot of salary before the recent signings 4. Cubs 188M 5. Nats 187M 6. Yankee's 177M ...Steinbrenner is rolling over in his grave. 7. Angels 172M 8. Cardinals 162M 9. Your World Champion Houston Astros 161M 10. Seattle 160M
The Red Sox are killing baseball. All they do is "open their wallets" . Look at that reckless spending. Tom Yawkey must be rolling in his grave. Trying to buy another championship. Baseball needs an investigation!
Well Roberto Osuna is officially an Astro, there was a closed door meeting yesterday. He still faces a court date Sept 5th. Astros are currently hurting, lost both Altuve and Correa and now Springer left yesterday and Lance McCullers Jr left after 4 innings and it on the 10 day DL. We've got some days off that Hinch says will allow him to use a 4 man rotation. Nice to take 2 out of 3 in L.A. though against a hot Dodger club.
Astros home woes continue, we are now on a 9 game home losing streak. Every opposition pitcher who takes the mound at Minute Maid Park feels at home and is a threat to shut us out. I'm surprised we haven't had a no hitter thrown against us in this streak. No time table for the return of Jose Altuve, George Springer will be back on Friday, Correa is back. We need to somehow tread water till we get the gang back together again for the Sept closing run. Verlander pitched well last night but no run support, so no 200th victory.
Throwing at Braves lead off hitter, Ronald Acuna, is beyond the pale. Marlins pitcher, Jose Urena, should be suspended and there should be an investigation as to whether he was instructed to throw at Acuna and if so the Manager should be suspended.
The Brewers are dropping like a rock in the wild card race and have worn out their formerly solid bullpen. But, divine intervention is possible if our GM looks at what is trending on Twitter: https://mobile.twitter.com/Starting9/status/1030970076802023427/video/1
