(Yawn).....I'll pass......I decided when I read the first piece that this guy has nothing to offer that's worth reading....for me.
Corey, I don't contend that Finebaum is a Bama homer, what I do contend is that in fact he was one of the most powerful people in the SEC then he has blown that reputation. Well we will be on the road for KC shortly.
Sid, The article you are passing on isn't written by the guy. It was written about spending a day with the guy at the Alabama-Tennessee game. Its an excerpt from a book.
Corey, With due respect, if I'm not going to read something written BY him, I'm certainly not going to read something written ABOUT him. You are talking to the guy who still maintains his boycott of SI some 20 years after the "tarnished dome" article. Blame my stubbornness on my Irish blood. Hear me, JO'Co?
Sid, No problem. Just trying to supply some background on my perspective as to why I think it's rather laughable to write this article off as a slam job by a homer writer. I'll save you the time and skip to the end: Anyone who would suggest that doesn't know southern or SEC football OR they are sticking their head in the mud to not see what may be painfully obvious to others.
Excuse me Corey but just who is accusing Finebaum of being a Bama homer? Not me. I'm accusing him of lying then lying again to cover his first lie by blaming Gator fans. I don't know if Finebaum was ever the 12 most influential person in the SEC or not, but if he was I believe he has slipped a little by taking on the Gator nation with one lie after another. After all if I remember that list both Foley and Meyer are higher on the influential list than Finebaum and he decided to take them on. Dumb in my opinion. Sid, I've boycotted SI for years also because of an article they wrote about the Gators about that same time period. I think there were muckrakers then. I will have to admit to buying a couple of swimsuit issues.
Bill, I never said you did, but there are plenty who are. Hell we've seen Dave insinuate the officials that live in Alabama readily cheat for Auburn in order to beat Florida before. The "Alabama homer" card is played all too often by those who don't know what they are talking about and truly do not understand the nature of the beast. You are not that person. As I've said, you and I are in at least partial agreement. I do take exception with you claim that he is lying to cover his tracks. You've said you didn't listen to the show or the archived files that are on his site for all to listen to anytime you'd like. This very topic had been building for weeks prior to the article Finebaum's point has never changed one bit. You are reading the article one way, and I am reading it another way. One of us has listened to his show nearly every day in the months prior to that article release, while the other has not. Yet, you can just dismiss the background that I am giving you on the issue. Fair enough. When this article came out, most callers and listeners of his show didn't even care that much but they did laugh that it would get a huge rise out of the Gator fans (which it did) and would probably draw another denial out of Urban (which it did). This topic of the 'out of touch with reality Gator fans' and 'Urban is an a-hole' goes waaaay back. It seemed to pick up steam with a Spurrier interview, but really this caused way more of a stir than it should have... but to say the guy lied, and then lied to cover his tracks is pure bull. Other than that, we agree. BTW-that article you posted with his 'show down there' attitude SCREAMED of 'Bama homer' but maybe you missed that part, or perhaps you just read it differently.. but that writer doesn't know jack squat about SEC football. As for Finebaum's 'power' in the SEC.. who knows? That is all so subjective anyway. I do know that he isn't wrong very often. No matter how much fans have hated him from various teams, and lord knows they've hated him, they come on back and listen because they know that one day the shoe will be on the other foot and Finebaum will be there to put it on em.
Corey, maybe lie is to strong a word. However before the article Finebaum was touting it as a bombshell about Meyer. Now he claims it's about us nasty Gator fans. Lie or not it sure seems he switched his issues. And a kind of humorous sidebar is that he now accuses Buddy Martin of unethical conduct. Buddy Martin has more ethics in his little finger than Finebaum has in his whole body. I guess just disagreeing with him makes a person unethical. Hey, I'm sorry you won't be in KC, I was hoping to meet you.
He doesn't throw those words around as recklessly as you think he does. I am let down too. I had this 'covert action' in the works for a while and its a bummer I couldn't pull it off.
