Don't get me wrong.. I don't give a sh*t one way or the other. The fact remains that I have yet to hear this guy say a bad word about someone that didn't wind up being true in the end. I've seen him stare down the "Bama nation" and tell them they were wrong... and he was right... and he was. That is a lot rougher than writing a nasty article about Florida while living in B'ham..
Corey, let's just see about a year or so down the line whether or not Finebaum is right about this one. I'm betting he's not and he took a bit step down with me in the integrity area. I don't post links from the Gator Insider area because people wouldn't be able to read them all. I think this article by Buddy Martin was an insider article to start with but isn't now. Finebaum's Storm Isn't Even a Drizzle
I think "Meyer to Notre Dame" isn't the real point of the article. I think his point is that he made, at least as he stated this week was: 1. Meyer will/should leave soon because 2. The Florida fans are totally out of touch with reality and have short memories. 3. Meyer is a bad person. Im not sure a year will be the measuring stick for any of those things, but who knows?
Corey, give me a break, the whole point of the article is that Meyer is leaving and he is a bad person. He can say what he wants on his show, but the article speaks for it's self. We won't even need a year to see how accurate Finebaum is, about 6 months ought to let us know one way or the other.
Ridiculous assertions Corey....if that is truly what Finebaum was getting at. He may have had some acurracy in past assertions about others.....maybe inside info....or maybe just got lucky.....but he is missing the barn on this one.
And I think you're right. But there are others that think you are not. That is what fuels these monsters of the media. They throw something out and it gets traffic because it is what some want to hear but it gets more traffic because it is something that others don't want to hear. The truth, no matter what the story line is, is irrelevant!
Corey, I know I am dead on with this one. Tennessee fans have been seeing this type of journalism for years from a KNS "reporter" by the name of John Adams. He perfected the process of creating traffic through controversy.
I would agree but Corey does infer that Finebaum is more often right than wrong and in this instance I contend he is far from right.
More On Finebaum I have met Buddy numerous times and he is married to a high school classmate of my wife's. I don't say we are close, but I have always found him to be honest and a man of high integrity. No wonder finebaum now calls him classless.
What the hell do people expect him to say, it's not like he's coaching Moorhead State and everybody would understand why he would be interested in someday coaching ND, Ohio State, Michigan, Fla, FSU, Georgia whatever...but he's at UF, has won 2 Nat'l Championships. He clarified this even more here. Meyer on ND
I don't go there all the time Terry but think it's a decent site. I do concur with the sentiment that every day should be Saturday and college football games.
If you find yourself concerned or even addressing the ND aspect of the article, than you missed the point of the article entirely... and in a way, proved his point about Florida fans.
That's nonsense Corey and you know it. Finebaum said he was going to write a major article about something that was going to happen in Gainesville then he wrote the article above. The subject was Meyer going to Notre Dame. Whatever Finebaum said on his program about us nasty old Gator fans seems very much to me a way for him to try to evade the very poor premise of his article. But hey, if you think I proved his point then believe what you want. I believe he's trying to backtrack because the article didn't have the intended effect and made him look like a jerk. But we will just have to agree to disagree, nothing new there.
I don't. His position is that Florida fans are bat sh*t crazy and have lost touch with reality. They turn on you the second you aren't winning big anymore. The smart money is to play those resources into being a legend and then skip town to some place that isn't going to fire you when you fall into a lull. I think he was making a Billy Donovan comparison to be sure. Your point about him 'back tracking' would be well taken except that Paul was saying this stuff before and after his article, which was loooong before it 'made him look like a jerk.' Otherwise I would be inclined to agree with you 100%, but when he's saying that stuff consistently then I'd say you might be missing it. Honestly, the guy has taken on much bigger fish right in his own backyard. To suggest that he's back peddling from the Gator Nation might be a bit of a reach.
First of all I don't think BD is any danger of losing his job. Second is that ND has fired way more coaches than has Florida in the last 30 years....way more. Anyone who thinks Meyer or BD are in danger of getting fired at Florida are b@t sh@t crazy in my opinion.
