MCG, If roster positions were really up to a vote, the NFL would be just as good at what they do as Congress is at what they do????
If you don't think where Manziel is at is similar to where Tebow is/was then check out these comments by Vikings coach Zimmer: http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2014/story/_/id/10705745/minnesota-vikings-coach-mike-zimmer-sees-flags-surrounding-former-texas-qb-johnny-manziel And yes Terry it is day 657 or whatever because the idea of a player's "sideshow" baggage making him less desirable to NFL organizations is still a topical and relevant topic as evidenced by Zimmer's comments.
Lot's of new records were set on opening day 2014 yesterday.....catch up on all the new season news at: www.mlb.com
Nice try AJ.... but this Manziel story will only get bigger before peaking on draft day in a couple of weeks.
Well two players couldn't be more polar opposites. With Manziel the questions are not about his ability as a passer as they were with Tebow. They are about his size and his character, two things nobody questioned about Tim Tebow. Manziel wowed everybody with his accuracy and arm strength at his Pro Day, but still they worry about his size/durability and his character. Again total opposite of Tebow who has never been a great passer, but has prototypical size and of course nobody doubts his character. He's just not a NFL starting QB, that he had some success is not an indication that he's a starter. I remember Sage Rosenfields having some success at various stops in the NFL but he was never able to hold on to the job as the starter. Tebow is no Sage Rosenfields.

Shell Houston Open this week, Phil may or may not play but Rory will be here. I never go, the whole thing is too complicated to get to, IMHO. You have go to a shuttle location and park then be bused to the course and of course for the most part everybody wants to go back to the shuttle lot at the same time so you have to wait/stand around quite a bit to get your ride back to the lot.
What I used to do at Torrey was get up early, early....park at this grocery store, call a cab and get dropped off in front, get a great seat on the first tee, watch 'em tee off, walk a few holes with who I really wanted to see, and then call it a day. Used to do that either on Thurs or Fri depending who was slated for the early tee times.
But Tebow engineered wins Terry.... when it counted. I think the article about Manziel above specifically is talking about an NFL coach's ( Zimmer ) negative comments about the "sideshow" that Manziel's presents. Does anyone question Manziel's ability to win? I don't think so. But there is a lot of coaches out there in the NFL.... Zimmer included it seems..... who don't want the baggage.
I got it Doc.....I just googled the houses around the Houston Golf Club....drive out there tonight, do some door knocking, offer free cleanings or crowns, whatever, for parking at their home.
AJ...never thought of that!! MCG...Tebow is not the only QB to Engineer some wins and not really be a NFL quality starter at QB. T.J. Yates took over for an injured Matt Schaub a couple of years ago and finished the season with a playoff victory on the road in Cincy. I don't think he's going to have a job next year and he didn't get the nod when Schaub went down last year either. He's got the same number of playoff wins as Tebow. So what, he's not a NFL Starter.
Ok Terry..... I won't repost all of the stats that supported my stance on this and there were many siginificant stats in Tebow's favor..... T.J. Yates is no Tebow and I'll guarantee you his stats don't remotely compare. But... NFL admin opinions are set.... many in the fanbase such as yourself have bought in..... Tebow is done in the NFL.
OK... last time I am going to give you something like this. Keep in mind.... playing Qb in the NFL is more than throwing through tires...it's about winning the football game. In 2013 Adrian Peterson of the Vikings had these stats: 279 rushes for 1266 yards 10 Tds and 59 1st downs In 2011 Tebow actually had 122 rushes for 660 yards 6 Tds and 35 1st downs. If you rated out Tebow's production on the ground in 2011 for as many rushes as Peterson in 2013 Tebow would have run for over 1500 yards 15 Tds and 85 1st downs. And Tebow can't throw like Peyton Manning but he could throw well enough to win football games.... to beat the Pittsburgh defense in OT. But that's it.... he'll never be a pretty passer only.... but he was a winner.
T.J. Yates was a winner as well, and he has a playoff victory on the road and didn't need a miracle throw to do it.
