No it doesn't. You need to go to Home Depot and buy a new BS meter. Your old one is feeding you false data. Thanks once again, kp, for your objective, agenda-less observations. Further to George's BS-driven speculation: If Te'o is complicit, why did he spend hours and hours on his phone in the privacy of his room with someone he knew did not exist? Such conduct would seem to be contradictory to a scheming mindset. Also, if you believe that he went to the trouble to concoct this hoax - or to participate - you must question the character of the young man that has been on display for his entire college career. Is his entire life prior to this past year a complete farce? I don't think so.
I'm saying that he may have been marketing himself for the Heisman and whatever subsequent benefits that might bring. I am extremely sceptical that this small group of people were able to keep a hoax going for three years undetected. To my knowledge, they had no obvious motive. How bad did they hate Teo to keep their attention on a hoax for three years? What I really think is that at some point he found out about it and made a conscious decsion to ride it out for reasons we may never know. He "met" her in 2009. I know of no mention of her until this season and that was when the story broke that she was ill. To and the press road that story like Secretatriat coming down the home stretch until it finally blew up. 500+ hours of documented phone calls in the last four months! That begs the questions, when did he study and practice and who paid the phone bill 8) . And who was on the other end of the line for all that time? He has now admitted that he lied about it for a "short time" through December and leading up to the NC game. Five minutes into that game you had to know something was wrong; everybody I watched it with commented immediately that he looked lost. To believe him at face value that he was in mad love with this girl and was totally duped takes quite a leap of faith. He is 21 and has been a national sports figure for 4+ years. This is no babe in the woods. At some point you might think he would insist on meeting her, wouldn't you?
George you always said that Carlo and Te'o were very tight, that Te'o wanted to play next to Carlo and not Fox. So is you insistence that Te'o knew at some point and continued it so he could enhance his marketing verified by any information you have from Carlo?
FWIW I'm not planing on watching Te'o on Katie Couric. It'll be a waste of my time. I can't imagine new information will be coming out.
George for him to have conspired to use this for his Heisman campaign would certainly imply that he was aware of the hoax before the season started and was part of the decision to fake kill off the girlfriend to gain added sympathy from the Heisman voters. I mean guys lose their grandma's all the time, it's the circle of life, but to lose your girlfriend and grandma in the same week...well.
Sure, I believe that Teo knew before the MSU game that he'd 1. Lead the nation in ints for LBs 2. That he'd make a critical int. in the win over OK the following month. 3. That ND would go undefeated and be in the NC game. 4. That the early favorites for the Heisman would all have poor performance games opening the door for a frosh QB and LB to be top candidates. Sure, I believe that in the middle of Sept. Teo knew all that was coming and used his on line girlfriend to market himself. What the hell is wrong with me :?:
All Im saying, guys, is that the story is that he met her at the Stanford game in 2009. They began talking and fell in love by phone. At some point maybe he would have liked to meet her, maybe show some photographs of the two together to friends, or one of just her. Maybe he would like to spend time with her, introduce her to her parents. Maybe he would like to get laid? Somewhere between your assertions that he is a Boy Scout saint and mine that he may be a manipulator, lies the truth. Every time he speaks new details emerge. Lets get him on Howard Stern; he'll get the truth out of him.
The story that they had met was told to his father. (Yeah he lied to dad so dad wouldn't think his son was stupid.) I think that the father is the one who got that story out there. (Now what do you do, tell your dad you lied to him and make him look like a fool with the public?) Assuming that he is a devout Mormon, would getting laid before he's married be the thing he cared about most? I haven't heard Lance Armstrong's name mentioned in days. After all the story of a millionare doper who won 7 Tours and an Olympic medal doesn't hold a candle to an ND player who is embarassed by an imaginary girlfriend. He'd have been so much better off committing a felony. GEEEZ enough is enough.
Enough is enough. But Teo is in deep and will not stop talking. Now his lawyer just today is charging that Teo has been exchanging pillow talk for three years with a MAN posing as a woman. I said right at the start that there was no way this ends good for him.
To clarify, the article I read stated that it was the lawyer for the perpetrator who made the claim that George describes above.
Mainly it just needs to end for Te'o. He needs to have a good workout at the combine should he chose to workout, and if not have a good Pro-day at ND. He needs to interview well at the combine and test well, I am pretty sure that even those who chose not to workout do interview and take the test. After that it's all about his football ability.
Now the only real problem I have left in all of this is the assertion that all of this was the reason he didn't play well in the national championship game. HA! Eddy Lacy and TJ Yeldon ran over his butt!
kp, has he said that it was the reason he did not play well? I was not aware of that. Regardless, it would not have mattered. We simply were no match for Bama on either side of the ball.
....as did every other member of our defense. It is unfair to single him out. As someone not named Musberger said late in the game, the Bama center was handling Nix one-on-one, which left the left guard free to block Te'o straight up. That wasn't the case against our other 12 opponents.
So the NY Post has shot down the story that Manti was talking to a guy who altered his voice. The dudes cousin says she was the one who talked to him. Oy vey.. Talked to Manti
