I thought Samoans were just one big family and would never do that to another Samoan.

There is more to this story no doubt. And even if Manti doesn't hire a lawyer to investigate and file civil suit, some media branch will ferret out these perps for their own story. Tiger Woods didn't tell anybody who he slept with but within a few weeks something like 20 women were outed by the media.

Way too many conflicts with anyone manti has talked with for me to gove him the benefit of the doubt. A lot of info yet to come so we will see. In the end, anyone involved in this SICK, DISGUSTING hoax is ******* trash.

Kes if you don't believe Manti, what do you believe was his end game in this? I can't think of one, and I believe Manti.

If you go on the BGI board you will see defenses of Teo that are more bizarre than this story and that is saying something. The latest is that the whole hoax is connected to Lane Kiffin and the USC fraternity.

If he is innocent you have to explain:

He claims to have met her at a Stanford game in 2009.

Who was visiting him and his family in Hawaii

His father's involvement in a three year fantasy.

Why a family friend would do this to him

Who was he talking to every night on the phone for months to help them fall asleep with the cancer pain

Why he would not allow a reporter to contact her family or provide a photo of her to use in a human interest story about the two of them

and just how childlike he must be to buy into this fantasy and to role play it this year to the absolute max knowing that it was not true.

George I do think there are a lot of things that Manti has to explain.

I think we are going to find out that Manti was in fact Catfished ( a new term I never knew before) but that when the end game by the hoaxers resulted in them killing her off with Leukemia that's when he told teammates and coaches and then the whole thing went public and garnered so much attention. Then when the press started asking questions that's when he started embellishing it so it wouldn't seem like strictly an online deal.

I believe he thought she was real, and dead until 12-6.

TOK's version certainly seems plausible......it doesn't address however the statements made by his father, I assume based upon info provided by Teo, and what Teo's possible motivations could have been in misleading his parents.....in any event, not a good thing for anybody

Unfortunately these things are very real in today's times....it can happen to anybody, as it has me. In light of Manti's situation, I'm going to confess to my wife about my year long online affair with Jennifer Anniston before it goes viral.

He's going to do an interview with Jermey Schaap. Schaap will not cut him any slack but be fair. So he will have to answer questions about what he said about meeting her, and what his parents have said.

I do believe he will have to admit that those were embellishments to cover up that he had never met her and only talked to her online and on the phone. It will be hard for him to admit that he mislead the press, but he needs to do it.

I am amazed at this whole Catfishing phenom. I'll post a story from a guy who is on Inside Texas...There are tons of stories like this.

I guess I can adapt to the dark - to me - humor. There certainly is going to be more.

Well, if we are to believe that he was "catfished" then I would recommend that he take his mommy with him to the NFL cause he ain't seen nuthin' yet.

Doc T - I don't know what Manti could have got out of it, and I doubt he initiated the whole thing. I also don't know what the perpetrators could have got out of it, either, other than the thrill of the prank. Which, coincedentally, could be the same thing Manti would get out of it. I do want to hear what Manti has to say about this, but I haven't been able to come up with a plausible explanation for the many interviews and stories from him, his family, the school, etc. that all seem to conflict with each other, including statements that he himself made. There is no "Manti is completely innocent" scenario that I can come up with. The closest I can come is the same as you, that he was embarrassed and embellished the story, which makes him complicit. Based on the "best case" scenario, I am not ready to absolve him, as a few hardcore ND fans seem ready to. I want to hear from him what his truth is. However, even that feels like he and his family are trying to play the media and public, trying to come up with the best story they can.

All - Do you really think this will affect his ability to play in the NFL? We have dealers, users, rapers (I know, it's rapists, but it's better this way), killers, shooters, and any other bad kind of 'ers' in the NFL, why would a duped and lonely LB, especially if you believe he's the best LB in the country, be any worse? He may be drafted lower, but he'll have his chance to prove his worth if he is who y'all say he is.

Oh, and I have no confidence Schaap will be a hard interview. He's cotton candy on the HumInt stories.

No, as you suggest, if you can play, you can play and that is the primary criteria.....however, I do believe it will cost him some money.

I am now getting spooked whether there is some mega Domer/false identity scam.

For instance, I remember traveling to Kansas City several years ago for a SB gathering and greeting and hugging a man who identified himself as Sid Baker. I have previously been communicating for years online at SB with a man who identified himself as Sid Baker, a ND alum.

Are the two one and the same? :D

Was the pecan pie Lloyd and I recieved and ate in two days ( Anne may have had a small piece) really sent by a ND fan from Texas?

    My head is spinning.
