A 31 year old Manning in good health.....no brainer. A 36 year old Manning with questionable health.....cut by the Colts. You like facts.....reality....well here is another harsh reality for Elway... In 5 of the 6 losses the Broncos had with Tebow as Qb last year the Denver defense gave up a total of 171 points.....37 points per game.
Dave, watching Denver 14 times last year doesn't make you an expert, sorry. Listen I am as much of a Tebow fan as you and there is also no doubt in my mind that Elway is using this as a way to move Tebow without the ire of the fans. But that is business, as much as you or I may think Tebow is a winner and can play QB not everyone agrees and a lot of experts think he will not. I have a few doubts myself. However things are what they are and it's time for Tebow to move on and while some of the things you say are based in fact you carry them far to far. I'm done here but will be watching closely and will become a fan of wherever Tebow ends up. I am rooting for him but am not assured he will be wildly successful at QB. As a person he is already wildly successful, much like Danny Wuerffel.
Bill, I'm not sure he will thrive at all as a situational "wildcat" Qb.....most times that is too predictable and it also takes away his leadership quality of driving a team down the field for the W. And that's all I am saying about the Denver situation is that it's all about the W in the NFL......not how great your Qb can throw the ball or how great he used to be. Maybe Manning's health will hold up and the Denver pass protection will keep him healthy but if the Broncos go 7-9 and miss the playoffs then the Denver fans will have the right to be pissed. In the interim...... GO J-E-T-S!
When you're only getting 3 and out rests in between defensive series, you can get tired pretty quick.
Most everybody likes Tim Tebow, his character, faith, work ethic, etc all are things to be admired. Dave has made it so if you don't believe Tim Tebow is a potential top NFL QB, you must hate Tim Tebow. Virtually no NFL expert see's Tim as having a great future as an NFL QB, except Dave.
Well when your QB throws 12 TD passes and had 6 ints. and 7 fumbles, the other team is getting some help.
Which is why they replaced someone who had a 47% completion avg. NFL = Not For Long when that happens. Additionally...remember Plunkett?
Therein lies the rub with Tebow. How much do his intangibles and work ethic and leadership qualities translate into wins is the key question......not his "potential".. Potential is for guys like Mel Kiper who never wore a jock strap in his life. The jury is still out on Tebow as a winner in the NFL. So far he has a winning record as a starter and is 1-1 in the NFL playoffs. Whether he gets the chance again soon to lead a team remains to be seen now that he is with the Jets. Personally I don't see him doing well coming in off the bench trying to engineer predictable plays with no rythm for the offense he is trying to run. RE: that 47% completion percentage.... Compare his 2011 season 660 rushing yards and his 6 rushing TDs to the rushing stats put up by Peyton Manning this coming season. As I say I watched Tebow and he avoided drive killing sacks time after time by either making great rushing plays with his feet or by throwing the ball away to avoid those sacks. Plus the Denver receiving corps dropped numerous balls in their hands that I am sure PM will be cursing about this coming season. Did Tebow WIN this past season because he possessed a prototypical NFL arm loved by the Mel Kipers of the media world.....hell no. But did Tebow win with Denver because of his overall abilities including making timely throws, good decision making, extremely effective runs at crunch time and his immense will to WIN, hell yes he did. I don't recall ever seeing a player get so little credit for his ability to WIN games. Kyle Orton went 1-4.....Tebow was 8-5....PM ?
Tebow's winning percentage last year with Denver was .65 which translates into 10 wins over a 16 game season. Let's say its a given based on what some here and in the NFL believe that Peyton Manning in his comeback will have a significant impact on the Broncos ability to win games so shouldn't we expect a winning percentage improvement in the Broncos......maybe to .75 at the very least? That would be a 12-4 season so that's what we should expect....correct?
Could have gone either way with that Tom......some do believe that Tebow can play Qb in the NFL.......some do not. I saw him make a difference....a huge difference in the same Denver team that Manning is taking over with regard to winning the game. And he did it at the Qb position.....and as I have been saying winning is the goal......not pretty Qb play with a lot of "potential" Heck Brady Quinn sits on the Denver pine and he is one of those "potential" guys......NFL arm etc. Denver fans may just get to see that potential if the Denver OL and pass blocking isn't better than it was last season.
As fans of football....understanding the game etc. how can you ignore the potential impact of these rushing stats between Manning in his last two NFL seasons and Tebow in only 13 games last year: yards gained FirstDowns TDs fumbles Manning 5 2 0 6 Tebow 660 35 6 6 So many of those 35 first down runs for Tebow last year came in closing drives that won football games. Sacks and lost yardage avoided and games won. In two years Manning ran for exactly two first downs. Isn't the Qb position about helping your team win.....doing what it takes with all of your skills? Is it only valuable from a throwing standpoint? And keep in mind the 316 Tebow threw vs. Pittsburgh. Contrary to the Hoge/Kiper report Tebow can hit receivers in stride for game winning scores. So that's what Manning did rushing for his last two years. This coming season for Denver he will offer just what in that category? I would say zilch. The relevancy of the rushing comparison is best illustrated by reviewing the Detroit/Denver game last year which was the last Tebow in the pocket experiment that John Fox went with last year. In that game Tebow absorbed some very brutal hits from a fierce and nasty Lions pass rush that poured through the Denver line at will. I would be afraid for Peyton Manning in that situation.
RELENTLESS!! Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until Dec to see if you're right Dave....in the mean time, as the other Dave (David Lee Roth) would say.....STAY FROSTY!!
Relentless is right AJ......mainly because people get lazy and want to just buy in to what the TV talking heads have to say. Take the Gator fan part of me out of it for a moment and this kid was just damned fun to watch last year. Tremendous last drive heroics and personal effort and that kind of stuff is just what makes the NFL entertaining. I'm afraid we've lost that for awhile now.......maybe forever if the talking heads get their way and the NFL decides it just can't stand a guy with Tebow's skills.....as Elway obviously did. Oh well......it will be kinda interesting to see how Denver fares now.
