From what I have read, do not expect Ainge to start. He is nowhere near 100%. Crompton has been working with the 1st team offense all week and is looking good. Ainge may not play at all. If he is not mobile, he will probably not play. Crompton has more talent and skill than Ainge. He is just young and inexperienced. I said at the beginning of the year that Ainge better do good this year and declare for the NFL draft because he WILL lose the starting job to Crompton next year.
Ainge is limping but has been declared the starter. Crompton could be in quickly and Fulmer has stated that the game plan is the same no matter which one is at the helm.
Great....Great game....GOY in my opinion... UF is once again...THE BEAST OF THE EAST!!! On the fumble/quick whistle...tit for tat on the punt touch fumble but why didn't Fulmer throw the challenge? See ya in Atlanta baby!!
Hope you feel better tomorrow Tom, that was a tough loss esp since you played with the kid at QB. One thing I know is that you have proper nursing care at home!!
After getting up to some chicken noodle soup and feeling a little better, I have a few comments: Once, just once, I would like to see a comment from MCG about a call that didn’t go Tennessee’s way. He shows his ignorance of the calls he bitches about by saying “Why didn’t Fulmer challenge it?” Maybe you ought to learn a few rules before criticizing those that have to enforce the rules. The ball was blown dead… you know… fast whistle that Terry mentioned. If the whistle blows, and it was not ruled a fumble, you CAN’T challenge it. If it was ruled a fumble, you can challenge whether it was a fumble or not. We were hosed on that call but you will never hear that from MCG with his orange and blue bias and hatred of anything to do with Tennessee. I have grown to expect that. Did that call, or lack thereof, beat us? Absolutely not! We were not able to stop the LSU offense all day long. Stupid LSU mistakes, not great defense, are what caused the turnovers that kept us in the game. Our defense was not up to the task. That is what beat us. Crompton is the man. I wanted him at the start of the year. Will he get the start next week? Absolutely not! Ainge will be allowed to keep his job. If he is limping to start the game next week, I will be pissed if Fulmer starts him. We lost three offensive series in the LSU game with an immobile Ainge. My overall thoughts: We are ahead of where I expected us to be at this point. We are going to a Bowl. That is much better than the results of last year. Next year, I will be looking for even greater success.
I must not know the rules because I thought it doesn't matter on a possible change of possession play. I thought that was what review was for. Tom, you don't acknowledge that I said it (Russell's fumble) was questionable and Fulmer should have challenged it but also you don't acknowledge that LSU was outpenalized over Tenn by about 12 to 2 which is not surprising but most importantly 5 out of 6 in the TV booth thought Morely's wrist touched the punt on the LSU TD that was not ruled as such and I stated that was a sort of an equalizer on the Russell non-fumble call. Hey you have a right to be a little grouchy. What a game though!
So..it's as simple as that eh? Why should a blown whistle change the reality of a play? Why do we have review?
<<Why>> Because at that point players are to stop because the play is over. You would never know what would have happened if the play hadn't been ended. It's the same rule as down by contact. I know you want psychics in the both but they don't come cheap.
Gip... I would be willing to bet that the ref that blew that whistle has a daughter that married a man that has a son from a previous marriage that went to Florida.
Some thoughts.. <t>Just back from the game, and a few thoughts:

1) It was LOUD! The 12th man did their part! What a great game, regardless of the turnout.

2) Russell did fumble, and the refs ended the play way too soon. It probably cost UT the game as a result. And the play was not reviewable.

3) But for the most part, LSU controlled the lines and the game. They deserved to win, but turnovers and penalties almost lost the game for them. The penalties kept UT in the game the first half.

4) UT has a “keeper” as backup QB. Cromptom lived up to his preseason hype! Although I hate to start saying “wait until next year,” 2007 could really be the year of the Vols. A Mature “D”, two great QBs, a healthy Coker! Could make for a stellar year .

5) Can UT pull out a win with Arkansas? It has been a long season with only one off week, and we are banged up!! We really need another off week.

6) Now I am worrying about KY!! Will Randy Sanders beat us???

I think I’ll double my Prozac dosage this week…..

Dan</t>
Tennessee Tom, Hope you are feeling better today. (Virus) It will probably take a little more time to digest the loss. Great game for fans whom were not close to the situation. Don
