77, Still good eyes and good memory. Golden has a lot of potential. I have this feeling he's a guy we'll look back on one day and think 'man, we could have had him but our hubris was too high'.. (paging those who thought Nick Saban couldn't win anywhere past MSU Sid, The truth of the matter is.. I love bat sh*t crazy... I truly do. That place is chalk full of it.
ESPN reporting that Kelly will interview for the ND job tomorrow. My guess is that if Kelly does actually get an interview with Swarbrick then it will be a done deal. I believe even if Swarbrick hires Gator Bill for the job he will announce that Gator Bill was his top candidate and the only one that he interviewed for the job.
ESPN is also reporting that Clausen and Tate are opting for the NFL Draft. No surprise there either. Don
Before Kelly left CMU, he told his players he was staying. So, if past is prologue, it sounds as if you have a new coach, Terry. A former co-worker I worked with for nearly 20 years was a Grand Valley grad. His son went to Michigan where he got an enginerring degree but used to faithfully attend GV games with his dad as a kid and both love Kelly. Both are not fans of ND and avid Wolverine fans. But, his Dad recently e-mailed me stating that if ND hires Kelly, both he his son would become "neutrals" when ND plays Michigan next year. To try and prevent he and his kid from turning Swiss if Kellty gets the job, I guess I am going to have to send him some of the Best Of Gipper and Corey postings
I didn't put 2 and 2 together but Kelly recruited Dan Lefavour to CMU. So maybe he knows a thing or 2 about QB talent.
Kelly is a good coach. Grand Valley was a D2 program. The coach before him, whose name I forget, built up the program and was hired by Holtz when Lou was at ND but fired by Lou after one year. During that era, the Lakers were a dirty program. I remember going to a Hillsdale/GV game with my friend to see our secretary's son, a star running back at Hillsdale, play and both of us agreeing that the Lakers were the "Canes" of Division II The program dipped for a while but became even better in play and more respectable in conduct after Kelly became head coach. When he took over at CMU, Mike DeBord, Lloyd's old OC, had succeded in running the CMU into the ground no small accomlishment given that the Chips were always a good football program, but Kelly quickly rebuilt the program to the point that they won the MAC championship. He then prompty left for Cinncy; it is fair to say that his teams at Cinncy have outperformed Dantonio's Bearcat teams. On the other hand, he did work on Gary Hart's presidential campaign....
I heard two things on ESPN tonight on the way home: 1) ND also "has interviewed or will interview" Jim Harbaugh. 2) Doug Gottlieb was stirring things up by saying that Brian Kelly and his wife are pro choice and comparing that to the Obama/graduation fiasco earlier this year. He also talked about Harbaugh having been divorced and speculated how that would fly. The only thing Doug knows for sure about ND - from personal experience - is that if you get caught stealing, you get kicked out of school.
ND <t>Terry,<br/> <br/> I heard the same thing from Gottlieb today. Like I said, these guys just love an opportunity to try and trash ND anyway they can. They keep setting up this ND straw man with all sorts untrue or unsubstantiated claims so they can tear it down. It's really pathetic.<br/> <br/> Another one that really gets me is when they say how ND is so "arrogant" because they are going after a "Stoops" or a "Meyer" for the HC position. They make a statement like that when in reality no one but Swarbrick and his staff know who he has contacted! It just makes me sick.</t>
Just so everyone knows what we do. Gottlieb attended ND on a basketball scholarship. He was throw out for dishonesty having used stolen credit cards. For some reason some ND fans think that he migh feel the same way about ND as we feel about that F#ing thief prick disgrace.
