This part I agree with.....they are toast NC wise. I see an Oregon/FSU vs. Alabama title game. FSU would get killed......Oregon might be interesting.
Thanks Corey, you reminded me of things I had forgot about Muschamp, or never knew, and yes he was coach in waiting at Texas and he didn't come cheap. I was stunned and thought we were settling when I first read about him getting the job, but after reading more about him thought he was a good choice. Other cyber experts didn't agree of course and he wasn't universally accepted because a lot of them thought we should have hired an established coach. Last year did not go well for the Gators, but contrary to what a lot of people thought Champ did not inherit a loaded roster at Florida from Meyer. For whatever reason the roster was thin and we only had about 70 on scholarship. I am not blaming Meyer completely and think the whole health thing, his resignation the first time and then again was a drain on the program. Stuff happens. But Champ has proven to be a good recruiter and I believe has us on the right track. I am also glad the Weis era is over, I'm not sure what he would have done in a second year, but I am sold on our OC Brent Pease and hope we have him a few years before he gets a Head Coaching job. Our offense will not be the fun and gun but then Spurrier doesn't run the fun and gun so much any longer. Some of our fans long for that type offense. Me I want to win. Thanks again for your input.
Bill, No problem. I like Muschamp. I don't really listen to a lot of the experts (e or otherwise). I just go based upon what I see and remember. I think he'll be a good one and as you said, the cupboard was anything but loaded when he took it over.
Me too....love this offense as much as I hated last year's. The only issue I have with Pease and the offense is not with Pease in reality I'll bet. That incessant run up the gut on 3rd and 1 that gets stuffed behind the line is probably an override by Muschamp.
Dave I do not believe you are right with your last statement about our offense. Champ did control things in the first game because he was trying to establish with our team the running game. But from what I heard Pease was on board with that. However after that game Champ backed off and Pease is the guy. That doesn't mean Champ doesn't set the tone, he does but he is letting Pease do his job.
hahaha there's not a lot of love in the P12. This whole BCS conference brotherhood thing is taxing on us. We're not use to being nice to one another at all.
That's actually not a bad article. My only beef is that it seriously lacks context to the extent that it's disingenuous. You cannot simply gloss over his record at UT as if he had one of Fulmer's great teams with Manning. That was a terrible football team. They went 7-5 in the vaunted SEC. Also, they talk about his gaffes as if those aren't intentional. I assure you, everything that guy does is intentional. There's a reason those UT folks were so angry when he left. I mentioned this all in the previous post. One thing that seriously cannot be discounted is the 'media image' and reputation angle that Tennessee suffered from when he took over. They were the talented, bumbling, under achieving Vols. Before the guy coached a game, he managed to get so far under Urban Meyer's skin that it's not funny. Hell, he trolled everyone with the exception of Saban and the Ole Ball Coach, who he traded barbs with... but that's just Steve's game, Kiffin knew who to push buttons with and who not to go too for on. We'll see how he does at USC. As I said, I don't think he's this all-world coach. At the same time, he has a ton of experience at a ridiculously young age for a head coach and he's had a lot more success by this age than a lot of guys have had in their 40s..
Corey, he went 7 - 5 in his first season, I will give him that. He attacked Urban Meyer, I will give him that, I will also give him that it was dumb to do so. I was at the Tennessee - Florida game that year and it was one of the most boring games I had ever seen. Low scoring, and Kiffin seemed to consider it a moral victory. Urban Meyer drew a fine when after the game and he was asked why he played things so close to the vest he said the other team wasn't trying to win so he played conservative. That was by the way true. When behind by about 2 td's Tennessee was showing no offense at all so they punted back and forth with the Gators leading. Tennessee made a defensive score late to make it closer but there was never any doubt. Meyer's remark was true. What was also true is that they almost upset Bama that year. What else is true is that Kiffin phoned Meyer last year when Meyer took the Ohio State job to congratulate him. He also said to Meyer I know I acted like a jerk a few years ago but I want to congratulate you. Good that he could admit, but I am not sold on him as a coach yet.
I drank the cool aid Corey. I bought into his enthusiasm... something Tennessee had not seen in a long time. We had taken the shots from Spurrier for years with a coach that never fired back... and Gators that loved it. When Lame started firing shots over the bow of Florida and the Gators became furious, that was comical to me. They were getting a sample of what we received for years. It wasn't until he fled Tennessee that I found out about the traditions that he had ignored and shunned. I won’t go into those details now but Dooley has reinstated those traditions. We Tennessee fans saw Lame’s youthful exuberance as a spark that could help us return to our past. His leaving and learning of his disrespect for our traditions are the reasons for our hatred. We will return to prominence at some point. But we are going to do it the right way. I am hoping that Lame stays in coaching long enough for that to happen. I want Tennessee to meet him again on the playing field and make him pay.
No doubt Kiffin ultimately crapped on the Vols program...and I would hate the man too if I were a Tenn fan. I never had a problem with the verbal salvos and bravado but I was saying at the time that what irked me was that he had absolutely no cred to do so..... and he still doesn't. I loved the piece on ESPN Saturday about Dooley's orange pants.....and I like the guy. I know we would have had to lose on Saturday for him to stick around but glad that didn't happen. Maybe he can notch a win over over Saban or Spurrier or even better Richt to save his Vol Orange hide.
Tom...don't get me wrong I hope he stays. I just think he needs a win over a ranked team... this season.
OK... just my opinion then. Again... I like the guy and appreciate the way he seems to uphold the Tenn traditions.
You're so full of it... What traditions would that be Dave. Tell us since you are so knowledgable about Tennessee. What was it besides leaving was the last straw for Tennessee fans? Enlighten me.
