Glad to have Pettitte back. Yankees were fools to let him go to begin with. Clemens can go somewhere else.....

You'll need a designated elbow rubber to keep Petite going. I'm glad he's gone, the guy has a problem with motivation these days and inspite of the local media wailing that he'll be missed, I don't think he'll be hard to replace.

As far as Roger goes, that guy is still the best pitcher in baseball even if it's only over a 1/2 year at this point. He could have easily won 12-14 games if he'd been pitching for a team with any offense, wouldn't have had to be much but cripes I can't count how many times he left in the 7th leading 1-0 and lost or losing 1-0 and wasn't bailed out by the Astros offense.

I read where The Stros mgmt. offered $12mm firm without a year option and stuck to their guns. Good for them. If the Yankees want to throw money around carelessly, let them. I like Pettitte, but to pay him $16mm/yr possibly over two years, with his recent injury history, is IMO unwise. But I'm not a GM, so what do I know?

Some of these numbers are beginning to add up. I'm old school and I believe that 2+2 is always four, no matter what anyone sez...

    re: Gagne
The Mighty Gagne turned down a deal from the Dodgers that would have paid him $4 million plus performance incentives that could have gone as high as $12 million. Instead, he has agent Scott Boras negotiating with Cleveland and Texas for a two-year deal that would guarantee $6 million per year regardless of performance. This is a guy coming off knee, elbow and shoulder surgery, including his third Tommy John operation...

    re: Brad Penny
The Dodgers are shopping Penny around pretty hard and that usually means that they have somebody down below in the minors who's a sure thing. NOBODY trades starting pitching, especially the NL All-Star starter, unless they have something else lined up. In the case of the Dodgers, its AAA Las Vegas pitcher Scott Elbert, who's been regarded by the experts as the best left-handed pitching prospect in the minors since Francisco Liriano was called up to the Twins last year...

    re: trade for power
Most of the current talk here has centered around Penny and one prospect for Toronto's Vernon Wells. Its unclear just which prospect the Dodgers would part with, but they're now loaded with .300 hitting outfielders and Wells plays the outfield. They also have Garciaparra and Loney who play L/R 1B and a logjam at 3B with Wilson Betemit in LA and Andy LaRoche in Vegas. If this trade goes down, it will probably involve one or more of the kid outfielders, like Delwyn Young or Matt Kemp. I hope its not Kemp...

Pencil Pettitte in for 200+ innings. If so, that's 15 wins for the Yankees. And that probably means a 10th straight division title.

By the way, A-Rod is becoming downright affordable now with the salarys skyrocketing again. Step right up....

He pitched 213 last year. He does almost every year. In the AL, no problem.

    George..

<t>Correct on AP. The Astros were dead till he really started pitching well the last half of the season and they will miss him. As for Clemens he is acting an ass like he always does this time of the year. <br/>
Glad my Cards are sticking to their New England Patriots plan to not get involved in the overpriced market that will come back and bite these clubs in the backside. Take the Cubs now that is certifiable. LOL !!<br/>
The JD Drew deal is as silly as it gets and I like JD but what he made off with is a true heist.<br/>
    <br/>
JO'Co correct on Manny the mut. Keep him out of LA and keep the young guys you spoke of. They are the future there in LA.</t>

AP has been pitching to NL batters and in particular NL Central batters....he's been gone from the AL long enough that it will be culture shock for him to face AL lineups.

    re: JD Drew

Please note that the Red Sox tampered with JD Drew, but the Dodgers aren't filing a complaint... if they won the protest, they would have to take him back! The Sox can have him. The Boston off-season deals have left me shaking my head. I don't understand what the Red Sox are doing...or the Cubs either for that matter...
