Now here is where Tennessee fans (in their understandable need to project anger somewhere) need to STFU. This is a double edged sword like I can't tell you. There's no way you all of a sudden 'know' it happened. If it took place, you condoned it. Just move on and let those of who who hates those motherf***ers professionally handle it from here Just move on with Dooley and don't look back... Btw-it should be noted that TMZ is launching a new 'sports' website. They are going to set up shop in the South if they are smart. They realized that (now its too late) the Poodle was pulling a 'Fredo' right under their nose and they are still posting panty pics of 15 year old girls.... and celebrity drug ODs.. They see lots of stupidity in sports, it's target rich. There is also this article that claims that is Lane's wife in the pic and it was in front of his wife, Layla's, brother... WTF: Kiffin Pic With Wife Stokes Off-Field Rumors
Did you read that his Bro-in-law who was also a Tenn Asst Coach didn't know LK took the USC job till some reporter called to tell him and LK was already in the air on his way to LA.
Corey There are always knuckleheaded fans. I agree. We need to move on. Nothing said about the 1 year long interim head coach can end well at this point.
Cindy!!! Oh how I adore you so.... You are always the wise one. I'm sure you have to see that chasing this dragon is a double-edged sword. (and the widespread support this topic is drawing from Alabama and Gator fans alike should be making you guys really take a step back and look at the situation analytically) Now if you would kindly instruct Tom to stop following Lane around with that camera, we can all go about our business
SIAP Stuart Mandell really like the Kiffin hire didn't he? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/stewart_mandel/01/19/coaching.reportcard/index.html
The Kiffin saga continues. I don't see how he can even recruit to USC once these kinds of stories get passed around by opposing coaches: http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2010/jan/19/eastlands-options-increase/?sportscollege
"If Notre Dame fails to return to glory this time, Domers will have a hard time claiming the school hired the wrong guy."-------Mandel above Do you Irish fans agree that the honus is really on the school and Kelly now to get it right? Is there a feeling that if he doesn't do it maybe there is a more far reaching issue with Notre Dame's struggle to rebound to prominence?
We'll see, he's a hell of a recruiter and with the talent in SoCal and the easy academics/girls/fun in the sun/Hollywood of USC he will continue to have lots of talent. Of course if he doesn't win like Pete did some of that talent will slip away to other pac10 teams. But even those USC teams during the 13 game streak we had against them weren't short on talent they just didn't have a John McKay or John Robinson (first time) to coach them. I have read that was the key to the USC resurgance that the talent that was going to other Pac10 teams stopped going there once Pete got things rolling and after that he got anybody he wanted on the West Coast.
As far as ND goes, while I would never say never, but if 5 years from now we are talking about a new coach then I'd say that it might be done for the Irish as a big time football power. Sure we could be a team that finds it's way into the top 25 most years and all, there are a lot of second tier teams that never really have that shot at being a dominant program but can be good programs and win a decent amount of games. But be that dominant program that we were under Ara, Devine, Holtz might be over.
Strong words Terry....but you might be right. The pressure will be tremendous because I think most Irish fans will have those same feelings. It should help that USC might just become Kelly's personal whipping boy now that 12-21....Lame Kitten has taken over the shirtless wildboys..
I happen to agree with Terry here.. sadly. Also, Dave... it won't hurt USC recruiting. USC, with any half competent boob should be a power.
Wow Corey....I am a little surprised that you have 100% buy in on that premise but it does seem like a strong possibility should Kelly fail. The reason is that he seems so much like the coaching answer then it would be natural to start looking under other rocks for answers if it doesn't work out. My gut says it does work out.
Dooley won't fail either. I've not felt this blah about a coach and I'm always wrong!
Tom, Ha George, That may well be and I kinda agree too. One thing he appears to be doing is something Lou did in the Vinnie C days and that is recruit athletes, not position players. For all the hand wringing on 'other' ND fan boards about him recruiting guys who play TE but are over sized and a tad slow at that position, but plans on making them OTs... that is EXACTLY what Lou Holtz did. I believe Vinnie C said something to the effect of 'if I bring in a guy who has only played OL/OG and he gets beat out or doesn't work out at that position, now what am I going to do with him? I believe that ethos may well solve our turnstile issue at OT and may well wind up helping us along the defensive front.
.....good one Tom.... On the ND size/speed issue..... One thing the announcers kept pointing out in the Sugar Bowl was the mismatch on the lines......which UF was dominating with size. Just a word of caution on that philosophy but it s assumed ND athletes will be a tad better than Cinci athletes.
Preliminary reports back from the Irish locker room are that team spirit and sense of mission are higher than they have ever experienced. And Camp Kelly is brutal but they are loving it.
