Calhoun is an Air Force Academy Grad so I wouldn't be surprised if he's a lifer at USAFA.

Tom, I think you are rushing to judgment when you say Kiffin leaving now is more of a disaster then if he left in a couple of years. I don't agree with you, this guy was a disaster waiting to happen and you are well rid of him A run in with the NCAA was a really good possibility in your future if he had stayed.

I've been through some dark days as a Gator fan but through the dispair things worked out.

    They will for you also.

Tom, that is a great cartoon.

And speaking of Monte Kiffin, I find it amazing the contrast between him and his son. Everyone I know respects Monte and I understand he did a lengthy interview on a Knoxville station and came across very well.

That brings a couple of thoughts to my mind, how did he spawn such a jerk for a son, and it also makes me wonder that if both Tennessee and USC hired the son knowing full well they would get the father and have a good defense almost guaranteed?

MCG, I think you and I read materials different. His comment about the Gator game didn't even enter my mind when I finished the article. Big deal, he's a Tennessee fan writing about Tennessee. Of course it was a heart breaker to him.

What stuck me about the article is just how close his and my thoughts about Kiffin are at this point, leave the picky details alone.

    Tom,

My outsider perspective is that Tenn is much better off without Kiffin. He was trouble from the start and honestly, I'm not sure what recommended him to the job to begin. A 5-15 record with the Raiders as HC is not much of a resume. I'm even more astounded that SC followed suit.

He ran his mouth from the get-go and drew the attention of the NCAA immediately at Tenn.

I think SC is taking on water and this creep will Captain the SS Trojan to the murky depths of sanctions and bad losses.

I can appreciate the feeling of betrayal but this will be addition by subtraction in time.

    Agreed.

    George/Bill

I have had this same opinion about Kiffin from the start as you know. My main stance from the beginning was his brashness being completely baseless.

I saw this a couple of days ago and thought about posting it but felt like it might just be rubbing salt in your wounds.

    Terry,

Coming from people like yourself and several others, it would be reporting. Coming from someone like Dave that had previously chastised Tennessee over Kiffin, it would have been taken as a childish jab.

Call it what you want Tom but I was uncomfortable reading that sh@t in the article.

I respect Tenn as a tough SEC competitor with a lot of tradition and what Kiffin and his staff were doing there was embarassing.

    Good riddance....

One other thing....if you peruse very closely any and all of my posts about Kiffin I never was chlidish about it. Like many things here I just spoke my honest opinion about the guy without any chastisement to go with it and I think it turns out I was right on with those opinions I held about him.

Of course the most trouble I have on this board is expressing an honest opinion and not toeing the company line. Sometimes I think Skybox is run by Scientologists.

Thank goodness for Tennessee's sake he's gone. To echo Rick, that truly was a discouraging read.

Dave, historically speaking, I called you down a long time ago about using lower case V's and T's to reference Vols and Tennessee. You honestly told me that you had a lack of respect for Tennessee back then. You finally dropped that lower case campaign but never dropped the disrespect shown for anything Tennessee. Just like you remember someone (but not sure who) disrespecting you when you lost your job, I remember your disrespect for anything Tennessee. I've even used your ways in expressing thoughts about the Gators lately to see if it sparked that memory in you.

Yes Dave, I doubt that I will ever forget your disrespect for Tennessee. I am just sorry that I let my disdain for you're attitude toward Tennessee (not disdain for you personally) cloud the Vol/Gator relationship that Bill and I built over the many years we've been on Prodigy/Skybox.

You don't have to tow the company line because there isn't one. ... unless you consider respect for others as being the company line.

Tom....check carefully.....I have made sure to use caps on Vols for probably the past 8-10 years...at least....or since you made it so clear at the time how it bothered you.

Those first few years on Prodigy were full of flamers ( Ga Trio ) Gonzo, etc and at the time it ( lower case ) seemed a way to show my fire about Fla and especially when it came to Fla-Tenn. But as Skybox changed so have I its just that you seem more sensitive to the decade old comments more so than to any changes I have made through the years although with no FSU fans present I still do the "noles" no favors.

Of course I still like to espouse my opinions and I will fight fire with fire when I perceive that UF has been attacked unfairly in some way ( Corey?) but I try not to make posts merely meant to inflame someone....most especially you..

I do respect Tenn as a tough competitor...as I do most of the rest of the SEC but I always revel in Florida beating any of them like a damned drum any time that's possible. :D

Otherwise having been the one who suddenly lost his job of 23 years in a hellhole of a place to get a new one I can tell you with certainty there is no friggin comparison to what is said about your favorite sports team vs. a real life crisis.

    Dave,

There does not have to be a one to one comparison for it to be a legitimate comparison. I agree that one is not equal to the other. The sting and how you remember it is just that... EQUAL! You remember that the next time you decide to post something. Not, what do I mean by this post, but how is this post going to be perceived by the reader?

As for the time frame of the issue: If I called a black man the N word, that man is going to remember me as a racist until his dying day no matter how many times I saw him and didn't do it. That is hate. You admitted hatred for the "vols". Will I remember that until the day I die? Probably so. At least any time you post about the Vols, that will be in the back of my mind.

I understand your zeal for the Gators. I just don't understand hatred for other programs. I may be leaning towards a better understanding of it with Kiffin and USC, but at this time, I just don't understand it.

Like Terry I saw that article a couple of days ago but decided to not post it, I'm glad you did post it though Tom.

Tom, here's way I feel about relationships that are built over time. Sometimes they hit stormy weather and rocky ground. However if they are based on mutual respect they survive and even thrive.

I am fine, feel for you about the Vol problems but feel your program is strong enough to overcome and move on. Kiffen might be well served to get films of that 98 Championship Tennessee team and show some of the things they had to overcome to win.

Mostly he can take the USC program and shove it, sideways.
