I know more about the Jets than anyone posting on this topic. So allow me... Tebow is a great young man who was signed by Woody Johnson over the objections of all the football people. Johnson wanted to exhibit him and sell a lot of #15 licensed logo gear. He cam to the team in good faith and quickly learned that the Jets had no idea what to do with him. The Jets problems are many. A meddling owner who will calls the bench from the Owner's box and help the HC call plays ( I witnessed this first hand ) A slow footed QB who they drafted with an insufficient body of work. He will never improve. Three subpar and slow LBS. Two big troublemakers in Santonio Holmes and Antonio Cromartie. Horrible special teams. No breakaway speed back. A poor blocking TE. etc.... Only then does Tebow factor. As much as I wanted to see him blossom I don't think it would ever happen here. He was not even the real backup. Sadly, he is not an NFL caliber QB.
This was apparent to me when the Jets decided to fire the GM and keep Ryan. Tebow has a good winning percentage as an NFL starter and he won a playoff game in Denver when Manning has not. I think he is worth the chance in a situation where there are QB shortcomings.....like the Jets.....but they were too thick headed to try it.
I kind of understand the Jags thinking. If Tebow would be brought in the pressure to start him would be immense and if he failed and was cut the outcry would be huge. I am not buying that he absolutely cannot play QB, but it is looking like he will never get the chance so I think it would be best for him to either change position or move to the Canadian league.
I have never heard anyone in the NFL suggest that Tebow is a pro caliber quarterback. That's OK. It doesn't make him a bad person.
I agree the new Jags coach or management just doesn't want theTebow circus even if he could be of immense help to a struggling franchise. As the QB..... the leader of the offense.... he is a proven winner at all levels including while at Denver. As a role player....especially with the Jets last season..... he is rendered ineffective by bad coaching....bad play calls..... and bad surrounding players like the butt fumbling Sanchez. His strongest suit is the ability to take over a game and get the win..... no matter what he has to do to make it happen. He cannot work that sort of magic trotting out on the field in an obvious 3rd and 1 short yardage type situation and the Jets were idiots for thinking so. How Rex Ryan keeps his job in NY is mystifying.
