I saw the Byrds at DeAnza Park in Ontario, CA in 1965. They opened with this song. I don't miss the Go-Go Dancers.
JO.Co...it's kind of funny...I really listen to tons of 60's music all the time...but didn't really remember that Byrds song you just posted. Then last night we went out to eat (outdoor patio...social distancing) and a local Mansfield Ohio band called "EKG" (Eggerton Kastran Group) played that song (minus the go-go girls). They are really good...lead singer is Dean Kastran, who was bassist for The Ohio Express in the 70's
Here's a bunch of UCLA film students who rocked the world. Lead singer Jim Morrison always said that his parents were dead. The truth is that he didn't want to embarrass them. His father was Adm. Duke Morrison, the Navy's leader of the air war in Vietnam...
Eagles are good to do.... I'll do Lyin Eyes and sometimes Hotel California. I also do a mean Drive by the Cars.
In the 1950's, most rock music was cross-over music from the South or northern cities like Philadelphia or Detroit. There was one, huge exception and they were my heroes. The Coasters were proud of being from Los Angeles. (The Left Coast.) They were uncompromisingly black too; refusing to modify or disguise their music or appearance in any way. The result was honest, amusing, forceful music that still sounds great today...
