Corey, I agree with you about Wisconsin.....I've watched them a couple times this year and they are the best one loss team nobody is talking about. Their only loss is to the Stripeheads in the Big House. I don't believe that LSU, Ark and Aub are all better than Wisky and Iwould go so far as to say that Wisky wins 2 out of 3 and if any of them would want to venture north in November 3 out 3...and just for the record, I don't believe that Tenn is better than M.
Don <t>you and I seem to be on the same page here. I'm not saying this conference, or that conference is better.<br/> <br/> my point is that there is no way in hell this SEC conference is 'much better' than the others as we are being asked to believe without questions. no way, no how.<br/> <br/> I don't see how anyone could say Auburn would be favored to beat Wisconsin regardless of where they play the game. Auburn has shown a serious weakness to the power running game. Their defense, much like ND's is smaller and designed to stop the vertical and perimeter attack. (not that ND does either very well, i'm just saying that's the design). Auburn was flat assed pushed around by a big physical Auburn team. Florida was doing the same until the Urban Flyer got away from what was working for them. Wisconsin would pound 45 plays between the tackles and force Auburn's smaller, yet quick, LBs to play within the nuetral zone. At that point in time, the medium seam and crossing route is wide open. People who say Wisconsin isn't as good as those teams isn't watching Wiscy very closely.<br/> <br/> Let's not forget that Auburn's QB has this nasty habit of forgetting which color jersies that his team is wearing that day.<br/> <br/> Not saying they are bad, I'm just saying they are very human.</t>
OK...Michigan, OSU and Wisconsin...vs Florida, Arkansas and Auburn.. Then what about the vastly talented Tenn and LSU I watched yesterday...who matches up to them in the Big 10? Then throw in the dregs of Bama and Ga and resurgent KY not mention a competitive SC and even a competitive Vandy and show me the Big 10 money.
ummmm part II <t>Tennessee was nearly beaten at home by Air Force. Is it not possible that someone else could matchup with them?<br/> <br/> Georgia was nearly beaten at home by a horribly depleted Colorado.. and were beaten by Vandy, and Kentucky.<br/> <br/> your premise is leaking. You're selling name brand of an empty box with some of these items.</t>
In another topic you extoll the virtues of Tenn. I'll put my money on Tenn vs. PSU, Minn or Iowa. And whatever of those three Tenn doesn't get I'll let LSU devour the others.
nope <r>i extoll the virtues of the matchup, which relies on the individual contest, not just a blanket statement that one whole sector is really superior to the other.<br/> <br/> and stu,<br/> <br/> get your eye off my junk. we're doing serious distraction and obfuscation here <E></E></r>
My daddy coulda whupped your daddy, except mine's 83 now.... Wait a minute...I know your daddy...I take it back!
MC, Since money wagers are forbidden on this board, I'll be glad to entertain any creative betting idea when the SEC rep meets Wisconsin on Jan 1
Interestin question Corey, what four teams are better than the four Big 10 teams you listed. Not a good question at all, why should SEC teams have to be better than all four? As a group I'll put up Florida, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee and Arkansas against any five teams in any conference. So let me poise the question in the same way to you, name five teams in any conference that is better than those five. It's not a good question but hey I'm just following your lead.
now there is a good question <t>and I think we will know a lot more about your question after this week.<br/> <br/> You, and most everyone else, seem to list Arkansas as the 5th team. I don't think that is on target, but we'll know more about that at this time next week.<br/> <br/> The parameters of your questions load the barrel to tip the results in your favor. You have to go the the middle of the pack in the conference to even get a '5th team' in a 10 team conference. (eg the 5th team in a team team conference should be akin to the 6th team in a 12 team conference). Its also interesting that Georgia has now somehow been subsituted for by Arkansas, but that's is fine.<br/> <br/> Still, I will humor you:<br/> <br/> ACC--> I'd put up 6 teams from this conference against the top 5 from the SEC (GTech, VTech, Wake, Clemson, Maryland and BC) I'd say the SEC may have 'the best' one team, but there 1 thru 6 could play with your 2 thru 5 and/or beat them. And we all know, I have never been a fan of the ACC.<br/> <br/> Big10--> Contrary to the protests of AJ, he sells Penn State short. Very short. Their defense is stout and as talented as there is in the country. The top 4 in the Big10 are straight up as stout as your top 4 in the SEC. PSU is a 4 loss team that has lost to ND, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin. Penn State fans are too proud to take the pity, but those Nits aren't too bad. That's a better than 4 loss team.<br/> <br/> Big East--> I'd say the top 3 in the Big East could play with the SEC handily. Its only a 8 team conference. If you guys think I'm kidding, then you haven't been watching the Lou play this year and you must have missed the Sugar Bowl last year. The BE is better this year IMHO.<br/> <br/> Big12--> They've got 6 that stack up to your 5. Texas, OU, Nebraska, Missou, Texas A&M and Tech.<br/> <br/> Pac10--> I think USC, Cal, Oregon and perhaps either Oregon State or Wazzu can play with your top 5. Wazzu was beaten badly on opening day at Auburn, then again Arkansas was annihilated by USC in a place that people in the SEC seem to think is nearly impossible to win at. Cal lost to UT and displayed piss poor tackling. They've changed, but then again, so did Arkansas. (i think)<br/> <br/> Which brings me to my point. It has to do with the matchups. How does team A match up against team B on a given day.<br/> <br/> Am I saying that SEC sucks? Absolutely not. Is it certain, or even probable that they are the clear cut best conference, no way.</t>
Ah Corey, let me say truthfully that it is very good having you posted. Now on a lighter note let me say that I am truly shocked, yes truly shocked that you don't think the SEC is the best conference. Let me also add that Kentucky and Vanderbilt could play head to head with several of those ACC teams you listed. But it's great to hear from you.
Corey you are not alone. Here's what Phil Simms has to say albeit a prejudiced view. LOVE FOR LOUISVILLE Full disclosure: Before I get on a soapbox here about college football, it should be noted that my son, Matt, has accepted a scholarship offer to play football at Louisville next year. I promise that has nothing to do with the following opinion: Why is it being written and said that the loser of the Michigan-Ohio State game, or some of the other one-loss teams in the Top 25, deserve to play for the national championship more than a potentially undefeated Louisville team? Because they play in a "bigger and better" conference? The last I looked, there are as many "automatic" wins in the Big Ten for Michigan and Ohio State as there are for Louisville in the Big East. Where was the outcry when Ohio State struggled against Illinois? What about Michigan being tested by Ball State, a team that's not even at the top of the MAC? But Louisville gets knocked for beating a previously undefeated West Virginia team because it gave up a lot of yards. Who doesn't give up a lot of yards against West Virginia? As I recall, the Mountaineers put up an awful lot of points against a vaunted SEC team in their bowl game last year. I love all those arguments about playing the one-loss teams. I think West Virginia and Louisville can handle their own against the Tennessees and Floridas of the world. Maybe their defenses aren't as good, but those teams don't exactly light it up on offense.
