Beckett had everything under control in Cleveland last night. I still like the Indian's chances, but not quite as well. Don
George, for the record, I consider this debate a friendly agreement to disagree. I certainly don't want you to be mad at me for any reason. I am mindful of your Godfatherly warmth toward your Skybox brethren.
I haven't read the entire thread, any mention that Payrod, Mo, and Posada will now fade away also? jif
It's not personal, Sid, strictly business. JIF, those guys may all be playing elsewhere but it won't be because of Torre leaving. Show them enough money and they'll forget all about it.
George, our boy Steinbrenner stepped in it......it was with intent that he offered Joe the deal that he did.....I love George but it was a dick and classless move. Joe is Miller Huggins and Casey Stengel rolled into one.....4 rings and never missed a post season in his tenure and the Yanks are gonna find something better than that???? So they say he's not a great bench coach or brilliant game day strategist...bfd, he just produces winners at a rate greater than any coach in modern day sport. Whatever it is that he does, he does it very, very well......he has a large payroll and gets great players. bfd, so do the RedSox and they have one ring in a 100 freakin' years.....good god man, what a bonehead move.
If the Yankee's didn't want him back they should have just had a meeting and told him they were going another way. Make a decision and take the consequences like men. But nooooooooo they have to offer him an insult that they knew he wouldn't take, then rather than negotiate which is what they do when they want somebody they just got up and said well thanks for the memories, no counter offer no nothing. I guess they thought the public would think they tried and failed, it was all on Joe's shoulders.
Joe's a class guy. I admire him for walking away. And it's 5 rings in the last hundred years, Buck-T.
 I stand corrected....come to think of it, that's a great idea. Maybe George can spend a few bucks, exhume the long dead body of Rough Carrigan, bring him back to life and put him in the Yankee Stadium dugout!?! George is my boy, but that just sucks.......
any chance of <t>a rain out in the next few days?<br/> <br/> If so, the Sox could bring back Beckett on 3 days.... and that isn't good news for the Tribe.<br/> <br/> So its Schill and the kitchen sink for game 6? Jiff, Rick, you guys been doing your stretches?</t>
Put on your head dress <t>and do a rain dance JIF.<br/> <br/> Beckett's a warrior... Schill... I hope he has one good game left in him.<br/> <br/> The Sox need to continue to show patience at the plate.<br/> <br/> Im not sold on Dice yet</t>
i have faith in schill. They MUST get crisp and lugo the hell out of the lineup. I would put Ellsbury and Cora in .
"Steinbrunner wants a ring EVERY YEAR!" Ya think? Is there an owner out there who doesn't? You guys have short memories. Remember 1995? Torre came to New York welcomed in the headlines as "Clueless Joe". Nobody could believe that the Yankees canned Buck Showalter coming off their first playoff appearance in 14 years or something like that. Everyone in this area wanted Lou Pinella. He did a hell of job here. It's over. What amazes me most that the Yankees, who have been golfing for ten days now, are generating more excitement than the playoffs could ever hope to. Enjoy the games!
Hyperbole aside, the Yankees situation is more of a sideshow. Drivers slow down to gape at a car crash. It's just human nature.
I was on the road and listened to the first 50 minutes of the press conference on XM. It was a love fest. It was great. He handled numerous questions with class, refusing to express negative feelings toward the brass but making it clear from what he didn't say how he felt generally and specifically toward certain people for the clumsy and insulting way they handled the situation. I can't imagine a manager/coach in any sport who is more polished than Torre in addressing the media.
