True retro for ND would be to don the old cross stripe helmets, but that won't happen. We wore the old cross stripe helmets in interhall football.
Coach Muffet McGraw was inducted into the Womens Basketball HOF. She is one of only 4 active NCAA womens coaches with 2 appearances in the title game and a Nat'l Championship. Geno, Pat, and Tara Vandiver are the other 3. Not bad company.
Great stuff if you have 2 minutes available to watch this YouTube video: Origin of "Play Like A Champion Today" by Mike Greenberg
Good video, but I thought it was actually going to give you the history of the saying/plaque. I have read it before, and it's begining is very humble with a simple request for a sign, heck the University doesn't even own the rights to one of it's most famous icons. Play Like A Champion Today
:!: Incoming frosh WR DeVaris Daniels: http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20110611/sports/706119813/ Irish players report to camp in 8 days...
I'm at ND for a few days watching from afar my grandson at basketball camp. I gave him this gift for his 8th grade graduation. He's 14, just south of 6'2". He's the 5th or 6th tallest on the team. In his 14-18 yr. old group there are 4 teams of 10. There are a number of hotshot players scattered throughout the 4 teams. There are two kids around 6'7" or 6'8" on his team alone as well as a couple of really good HS guards. My sole concern was whether or not he belonged. I no longer am concerned. He belongs. It's a great experience for him. He's staying in the same dorm I was in my freshman year. It's a pretty cool experience for both of us.
I'm not a fan of tatoo's in any shape or form, and would prefer our guys be tat free...but that's not going to happen. Here is Eilar Hardy freshman CB/S....I really hope for his sake esp that everything works out great for him at ND, these will not come off easy!! Eilar Hardy
Nice story Sid. Takes me back to the time Commish attended Digger's camp at ND. My oldest grandson Patrick will be old enough to attend the Lacrosse camp at ND next year. He's already looking forward to it.
I attended the ND club of Detroit golf outing dinner last night. Jack Swarbrick was the speaker. Nothing earthshaking to report. He doesn't see artifical turf or a jumbotron at any time in the future. He seems to like the exposure that a night game gives the program. I wouldn't be surprised if we have one home night game a season. The SC game this year is a trial baloon. He was asked about the "ND network." and he explained that unlike the Texas situation which is concentrated in a smaller geographic area, ND has a much wider area to focus on. He anticipates that commercial TV (NBC) cable (VS) and internet platforms would comprise the "network." He pointed out that the Big Ten network was valued at 2 billion dollars which puts considerable money on the books of participating schools. Speaking of the BT, he mentioned that our traditional BT rivals want to keep up their scheduling partnership with ND although with the exception of an upcoming Northwestern game would still be on the front end. The last couple of years have seen remarkable success in the non football sports including 2 NCs this year. He saluted his coaches and the quality of student athletes they have been recruiting. The graduation rate of athletes is outstanding. He declined to comment on the OSU situation other than say it is a bad thing for all college football. He feels that the punishment that the NCAA leveled at SC was a good sign of their commitment to enforcing their rules.
Brace for an explosion <r>C4 ready to detonate. Taken yesterday. If he stays healthy look for a really big year...<br/> <br/> <IMG src="http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o60/georgekrebs/th_CarloCalabrese062111.jpg"><s></e></IMG></r>
