I don't know if all of you have checked out Mike Franks new site Irish Sports Daily but at least for now I think some of his articles are free. Irish Sports Daily
Well the Irish got a terrific TE prospect out of Cincinnati Elder HS, the same one as Kyle Rudolph....Alex Welch. His uncle is Steve Heimkreiter who we all remember, and who had a great career as an Irish LB. One thing, amongst many things, that Charlie has done is to reestablish the Irish in Ohio. We're picking up a couple of kids a year from Ohio and they are top players, we need to be able to get midwestern kids to look to ND as well as the usual B10 schools. On the down side Austin Hinder who was a target at QB just commited to CAL and that puts a premium on Nick Montana who is our top remaining highly rated QB. There are a couple of other kids who are more in the B list category, Luke Massa from Ohio (Cinciny St. X) is one of them. I don't think he's been offered just yet, but his teammate Matt James is an OL that the Irish covet very highly. Terry
Doc Did we lose out on that kid from Wash.? His name was Jake (Not Locker) and was supposedly our no. 1 QB target.
Jake Heaps is the kid you are talking about and I am pretty sure he no longer list ND in his top 5. Not to mention that as the evaluation period has gone on his stock has been dropping a lot. Peter Thomas is a kid who is supposed to be good and that we are still in on both he and Montana are 4* on Rivals. Nick is #12, Thomas #13 and Massa is #16.
Thanks. I was in SB this weekend, and picked up a copy of Irish Sports Report. It had a full page article on Heaps and how CW really wanted him. The publication was dated 4/23 but have things changed that much in a month? The article indicated that if Heaps was a no, that they would go after Montana.
Welch <r>I have to admit, a couple of weeks ago when I first heard about Welch I wasn't all that excited. After he picked up offers from some other big programs(OhSt., Ok, Mich etc) I went and looked at some of his film on the web. You can see why he was offered by so many big time schools. <br/> Hopefully he has finally broken the ice again and we will see a steady flow of commits from now on. <E></E></r>
