 Jim Mora at UCLA is an NFL coach. He could care less about college niceties and looking good. His goal is to land an NFL head coaching job and UCLA is his springboard...
This impacts all schools. ND is setting a precedent that isn't best for college football. If I were a president of a school in the Big Ten I might be tempted to comment that "you can't trust those Catholics."
If they release this kid without a a year off they are out of their minds. Here is a conflicting report: Brian Hamilton @ChiTribHamilton #NotreDame spokesman says school will not release Eddie Vanderdoes from letter of intent. School will have comment today. 1:27 PM - 4 Jun 2013
Why? We were ready willing and able to uphold our part of the bargin. It was the non-catholic family who bailed on the deal. I do wonder though if this will result in more kids bailing on LOI's if they decide to change their minds. It's already common to verbal to a school and change your mind later in the game, and everybody does it and wins and loses players in that game. So this is a new game. I'm betting though that it's not going to be very common.
If that's the university's decision, I fully support it, regardless of how I felt before receiving this news. Opinion is one thing. Acceptance of the facts is another. I accept and support the decision.
ND <t>it's the right decision for ND. Wish the kid could have come to ND and I wish him the best of luck but the school handled it correctly.</t>
ND didn't release him and of course, is taking a beating from the fans. (if you ever read the comments or non-major sports writers blogs.) They allowed him to transfer, they released the school restrictions (which was a nice touch I thought), but ultimately they are going to make him sit out a year. Either way, it's fine. My beef is that ND and FSU have all these jackals begging them to not release these kids. Meanwhile, it's those 2 who will have to carry the cross on this one. Les Miles is one of the worst in the country at this. They pull kid's promised scholarship offers when their 'process' doesn't work out.. and by that I mean, they don't lose enough kids to the pros, injury, grades or arrest.. They get in a numbers crunch and then ask kids to 'gray shirt' or worse, pull the plug. The scales aren't as even as people seem to believe. That being said, ND did what they have to do. The bottom line, and this is something I mentioned earlier, the NCAA must step in and stop this nonsense... but they won't.. because it's a sham. As for UCLA poaching or tampering.. I have zero evidence to believe this, but I also have zero reason to not believe it. If I had to guess, and that's all I've got here, I'd bet that they did. Another point I mentioned before, this poaching and tampering is a growing problem.. and again, the NCAA must step in.. but they won't.
I haven't read the rule so I might be off base here. So someone help me out if I'm mistaken. There are 2 different rules involved, one for transfers and one for those that do not live up to their LOIs. When a kid transfers the school he is playing for can "release" him unconditionally or with restrictions. I think if a player is released, he doesn't have to sit out a year. If a player does not enroll after signing a LOI he can enroll in any other school he wants. However he loses his first year of eligibility. As far as I know he doesn't need a release to break his LOI. As to the "fans" bashing ND I'm not surprised. They'll take every opportunity to throw stones. In fact not weakening the NCAA rules on LOIs is the most important part of this affair and the school did that. Had the somehow let EV skate (and I'm not sure that they could waive the NCAA rule) they would have been ripped for that. It's a win-win for the bashers.
nd <t>it will be interesting to see what happens to kid. if the past history of what happens to football players who did similar things, he won't fair that well.</t>
Elijah Hood <r>Just a little something to make Irish fans smile:<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/top-recruit-notre-dame-commit-posts-video-him-034711266.html"><LINK_TEXT text="http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr- ... 11266.html">http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/top-recruit-notre-dame-commit-posts-video-him-034711266.html</LINK_TEXT></URL></r>
I actually don't really care for that video. It shows disrespect for the Tide a team that beat us solidly. I like the fact that he is solid to the Irish, at least for now!
Lions reportedly will be looking at Brian Kelly if Jim Schwartz doesn't turn it around this year. No wonder he was eager to have his photo taken with the gipper. Brian Kelly to Lions
I have always thought that South Bend was a sleepover for this guy. He gave us a backhanded warning in January. There are not that many real good coaches in the NFL so I''m sure someone will take a chance on him. If I were the Irish, I would start making up a list.....
If Chip Kelly has a good first year and the Irish with all their problems have another good season with a top 10 finish I wouldn't be shocked. Anybody notice that there still hasn't been an announcement of Kelly signing his extension.
So where is the contract hold up? Is it that the school is balking on the price demanded or is Kelly balking at penalty provisions?
8) re: ND coach I've already made my list: Martin or Diaco. re: the flush Obviously that was childish and immature, but let's not forget that he is a teenager. There's millions more just like him out there and I deal with them every day. His perception of his place in the cosmos will improve or he will end up like Randy Moss......
Amir <t>Looking ahead to the upcoming season I'm looking forward to seeing Amir Carlisle play. He was looking really good in spring practice until he broke his collar bone. I think he can do some good things in this offense.</t>
