Look...I get your point...you obviously don't care to get mine.... A sports CHAMPIONSHIP is earned by playing games for a championship...it isn't a lottery to see who garners the most votes for "best" team. Maybe Butler actually IS the 2nd best team of all...because with all of their fricking talent your other favorites DIDN'T GET THERE....DIDN'T EARN IT ON THE FIELD OF PLAY. You are happy with a poll...a vote...a popularity contest...a perception...fine....let's just vote it out like the Heisman and Cy Young awards. What happens on the field matters there, too...but it is still a popularity contest of sorts. Oh, with the BCS you do get "a game" so you can delude yourself into thinking that proves the validity of your perception...easily forgetting what the system is all about.
We sure do agree on that one. Bama-LSU part deux should be one whale of a football game don't you agree? And neither one would be there without excellent performances in all of the games they each played this season.....each and every one of those regular season games being exceedingly important for their national championship aspirations.
Why? The outcome was meaningless.....just exactly what did it decide. You are arguing against your own arguments that have argued against those prior......it's making me dizzy. There is a reason the NCAA does not award a national championship in FBS football and that FBS football is the only sport, only division, anywhere at any level that denies worthy participants even the opportunity to compete for the championship because of the result of super secret computer simulations and a popularity contest and for that reason it is fundamentally and fatally flawed, imo. It's like a bad Hollywood script and a f'ed up mess. ScarJo where are you?
This season is highly unusual in that a rematch did in fact occur. It's almost like the perfect storm that occurred for a two loss LSU to get in in 2007. Also....a poor performance by either in that game and make room for Ok St instead so yes....in the BCS scheme of things this game was very important and in most years it would have excluded the loser.
I am enjoying this debate. Over the past several years I've gone from an "old school" attitude of not wanting any kind of playoff to being on the fence. The opinions here are well thought out and well expressed. For someone like me, they evoke a thought process which is enabling me to define better my position on the topic. I'll keep y'all posted.
0 TDs you can't have a much worse offensive performance by 2 teams can you? That game was like watching soccer. Arsnelabama beat Louisipool 3 to 2. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Gipper no question that the defenses ruled the roost in that game. By poor performance I meant that say if Bama loses at home by 20 points I think no way the voters don't go with Ok St instead of Bama. But....LSU's season performance on the field.......in the games....was so impressive that Bama's extremely narrow loss cast a shadow of possible greatness on the Tide as well. That and the fact that they stomped....literally......on my hapless Gators. 8)
I haven't watched a complete NFL game in several years. I am a college football fans. Sundays are for chores!
Politics and self-dealing in the selection of a champion -v- merit and actual on the field competition???? Say it ain't so! No surprises here obviously, but certainly reinforces the absurdity of this rather peculiar process for choosing a champion..... http://www.freakonomics.com/2011/12...bit-a-conflict-of-interest-when-rating-teams/
