Uhhhggg.....I'm feeling sick after reading the last few posts... This always happens when I'm not around that much this time of year...here, let me help you two out.... Florida sucks....OSU is gonna get man raped in Lincoln (Yeah, I said it) And if I agreed with anyone here, we'd all be wrong. NOW!! Both of you have a nice day.
I've heard pigs fly as a comment related to something that is not going to happen...but never shrimp flying. Ohio State Case casts doubt on the Power of School Presidents
Gee's attempts at humor have not served him well recently....all that aside, he is the guy that dismantled the athletic department at Vandy, contrary to the wishes of some very powerful and influential alumni - some of whom I consider personal and professional friends.....that said, I appreciate that the program in Columbus is somewhat of a different animal. I know they were asked for their opinion, but many of the critics in the story are somewhat short of the factual evidence in the case necessary for them to draw definitive conclusions - at least in my opinion.....I'll wait for the case to be heard and the investigations - both federal and NCAA - complete and the facts get out on the table.
It's not like Vandy stopped participating in sports. It was an organizational move. Seems to me more like having a divisional VP in business have his division folded into another division. Life goes on as usual on the assembly line, but reports are sent to a new guy.
It's a little bit more than that in my view....and I assure you that it's not business as usual for the AD nor any of his direct reports who now report up through university affairs....the power and influence of the bureaucracy that once was the athletic department with the ability to negotiate contracts, entertain well-heeled donors at their own discretion and be their own voice to the President/Chancellor is now beholden to an underling in the Chancellor for University Affairs.... Yes, it was an organizational move but a very powerful one with a very powerful message about priorities and influence of inter-collegiate sports at Vandy.....there is no AD - that position is gone. The football coach is on the same level and reports to the same guy as the Director of Risk Management, General Counsel and Head of Compliance....not many ambitious, power hungry young athletic administrators are gonna want to come to Nashville looking to build their own kingdom at Vandy.....ain't gonna happen.
   Outstanding Bobda.....that is funny. I knew I could always count on my friends from up north to do creative, unusual and entertaining things with monkeys.....
It is Vandy we are talking about, right? I don't think any of those guys went to Vandy when they had an Athletic Dept.
Don't tell that to Todd Turner and/or any of his staffers.....I would say that was exactly what Turner was when he came to Vandy from NC State in 97.....that was during my time in Nashville and just my opinion from personal and professional observation tho.
In the immortal words of A.J. Huskerfan. Nevah Hoid of da bum! Seriously though, if you are an administrative type you have to make your bones somewhere as you move up the ladder in college sports administration. I could hardly imagine that young guys/gals are at a disadvantage working at Vandy and that any hard charging types likely weren't meant for that environment in the first place and just bidding their time to move up the ladder not only in level of admin job but at bigger more prestigous programs as well. Hardly imagine a hard charger saying his goal was to be at Rice, Vandy, Wake Forrest, etc.
TOK, Clearly a job in the Vandy athletic organization is less attractive now than it was prior as a result of reorg and clear de-emphasis on intercollegiate athletics.....I can imagine many young, talented ambitious administration types - as Todd Turner, most recently I think AD at Washington, was - considering career alternatives between an assistant job at a larger more prestigious athletic school and the head job at Vandy. Many would choose being the head man, running a multi-million dollar business that even Vandy is, over a assistant job.....the relative attractiveness of that option is now much less....not to mention the message and implications and challenges of recruiting both coaching staffs and student/athletes.... The point is this, whether we agree or disagree on the magnitude of the change, it is a dramatic shift in the sense that very few, if any, college presidents have had the stones to implement it....it was met by a firestorm of controversy by the community, boosters, alums, Board and coaching staff and yet he had the courage to go forward in the face of it....I see no other examples of university leaders who have done so. If one is going to take shots at Gee for "cow-towing" to athletic interests, it's useful to have that perspective.....
Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Tressel did not keep those emails confidential he forwarded them to a businessman in Pryors home town who was acting as a mentor to Pryor. Emails Forwarded
Terry, I am not certain how this is all going to pan out, but I have a pretty good idea and its not good.
While I appreciate that it is inevitable, it's maddening to see these bits and pieces of the story trickle out. Kinda hard to put things in proper context and perspective without a more comprehensive set of facts - at least it is for me anyway.
Either Ohio State or Notre Dame. Those were the teams he had out clauses for. ND doesn't need a coach at the present.
No Terry, I think that was a guy who wrote for a different paper. But Bianchi loves to stir it up. He's a Gator Grad and has a good sense of humor but I have come to not care much for him.
