Got you MCG and pretty much agree. However what you posted were several articles that for the most part supported your position.
George, I pretty much agree and as to WWE, it was entertainment and everyone knew it was fake. There was a time I kind of enjoyed watching wrestling, but lost that a long time ago. Actually I will give you credit for a pretty reasonable answer. I wish we could clean up what is wrong with college football but will continue to enjoy anyway. I think there is a fundamental problem with bringing in kids, making idols of them, then on Sat's they see the spectacle that they actually bring about with their skills, all the money passed around, rich alumni flying their planes in, a coach that makes millions. Then during all of this many of them don't have enough money, legally, to take their girlfriends out. In my opinion that creates a disconnect and an atmosphere, along with the desire to win at any cost of boosters etc., that brings about many of the troubles that we have in football. Unfortunately I don't have the answers, but like you will continue to enjoy the game.
Count on it Husker, I'll be there.....pre-game, post-game of both. If post-game and you hang 35 on us, you're buying and you'd better go to the bank that day because I'd be drinking alot.....! 8) p.s. I think your safe......
AJ, With things going on at the moment, we may have to face Nebraska with just walk on players?
This is pretty interesting...from BuckeyeExtra.Com It doesn't mention who the 12 were or who the 1 who didn't get fired was. Also Earle Bruce stepped up to defend Tressel although some of his comments, at least to me would've been best left unsaid. Tressel
That was a widely publicized event for which Woody and the program were sanctioned by the NCAA and if I recall correctly led to some changes in the grant-in-aid program in the late 50's. KP, Bill, you've lost me, I'm just not following you....if it relates to oversigning, forgive me, but I guess I will stand side-by-side with the majority of college football fans and Pres Machen among others and be "smug and cynical" in opposition to the practice and the need for the NCAA to put forth effective limits.....so be it.
Ex-M coach Rich Rod offers unexpected support to JT.....thanks Coach http://content.usatoday.com/communi...ch-rodriguez-support-ohio-state-jim-tressel/1
I saw that earlier on one of the Buckeye BB's....pretty sobering stat for sure. There seem to be an awful lot of open questions here....there are many, myself included, that believe there are alot of answers to be found once all the investigations - federal law enforcement and NCAA - are complete but that at present cannot - for legal reasons - be released. For example, AD Smith and Pres Gee are pretty savvy guys....both having been around the block once or twice and are presumably well-versed in NCAA compliance and processes. Noting during the presser Q&A that there were several questions posed that AD Smith said could not be answered due to pending/current investigations and legal proceedings many believe some of the answers would help lend some validity to JT justifications.....the point being that Smith and Gee knew the answers and with that knowledge acted in the following way: 1) Both offered STRONG endorsements of Tress the man and the head coach 2) With no doubt full knowledge of previous 10b-1 violators, put forth University recommendations of 2 games and $250k, keeping in mind that the University recommended punishments for the players that prohibited them from playing in the Sugar Bowl.... Something just doesn't measure up here in my mind.....recall that Gee is no lackey of the Athletic Department. Gee, while at Vanderbilt, put forth a re-organization of the administration structure that eliminated the athletic department and the AD. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4188/is_20030910/ai_n11406024/ Granted, the size and power and influence of Vandy's athletic department is not the same as Ohio State, but the man's past actions do speak.....
hmmmm RR endorses Tressel...and you take that as a positive? Seems like taking Al Capone endorsing the IRS or John Dillinger endorsing Elliot Ness as a positive!  As far as Gee and Smith go, I wonder how they really feel after finding out that JT lied to them and left them hanging out to dry? No doubt that there probably has never been a coach of the stature as Tressel who was in this position. So what do you do? I mean as we have all seen hiring a new coach is a huge risk, you never know what you have till it's too late. Given all that JT has done on the field, it would be a huge risk to fire him.
I gotta vote with BT on this one...at least with my hopeful side. I am very bummed out about the whole thing because it is SO STUPID...and I do not believe these guys are that stupid. For now, it is what it is...I really don't care about stronger sanctions...I'm just bummed that it happened.
Sorry, but I feel the need to chime in on the RR endorsement. He said: What an assinine statement. Of course, it gave OSU a competitive advantage in 2010. If it had been reported when Tressel became aware of it, the players likely would have been suspended for at least a portion of the 2010 season, PLUS Tressel's integrity would have been intact. Without direct knowledge of his reasons for staying silent, it's reasonable to speculate that the likelihood of the players' suspensions in 2010 was the reason Tressel did not say anything. IMO as an outsider, the endorsement is meaningless. For the record, not that anyone cares, I remain mystified why the 5 players were allowed to play in the bowl game. I know, I know. It's history. While I was ranting on the RR endorsement, I thought I'd squeeze that in.
Thing is almost every day you can find a story either of national significance or state/local significance where a supposedly smart person has done something incredibly stupid.
I saw that Kirk Herbstreit has moved from Columbus to Nashville because a small part of the Ohio State fan base. Herbstreit Moved
Here's a list of the coaches who changed jobs at the end of the 2006 season. The dirty 12 who were fired would be somewhere on this list... Coaches who were replaced: TEAM 2006 COACH Air Force Fisher DeBerry Alabama Mike Shula Arizona State Dirk Koetter Army Bobby Ross Boston College Tom O'Brien Central Michigan Brian Kelly Cincinnati Mark Dantonio FIU Don Strock Idaho Dennis Erickson Indiana Terry Hoeppner Iowa State Dan McCarney Louisiana Tech Jack Bicknell Louisville Bobby Petrino Miami (Fla.) Larry Coker Michigan State John L. Smith Minnesota Glen Mason North Carolina John Bunting North Carolina St. Chuck Amato North Texas Darrell Dickey Rice Todd Graham Stanford Walt Harris Tulane Chris Scelfo Tulsa Steve Kragthorpe UAB Watson Brown
Terry, reference you post on Kirk Herbstriet, this has been a rediculous situation. Talk shows and forums have been anti ESPN and Herbie because he tries to be objective and not show on air favortism to Ohio State. However at times he has really made some stupid projections and comments like he would not send his son to Ohio State! Those kind of comments due not endear him to the fan base. I imagine his wife was just fed up with the situation. If I remember correctly he purchased three separate lot to build a huge home in Upper Arlington. Has to be in the three million dollare range. Bad time to try and sell that baby and get your mone back?
I don't know anything about Columbus area real estate, but you could be right. Anytime you have the most expensive house on the block it makes it hard to sell at it's supposed market value. I can't imagine a Texas football player being in the position that Kirk is in if he were a ESPN analyst.
