How would you rank each team in the four good conferences?

    I know Sid. I didn't take offense.

I think if we played now on a neutral field with Marve at QB we take them. Danny Hope is gone, I believe, because he was too stubborn about staying with TerBush much too long. We are much better with Marve. Danny liked TerBush's steadiness over Marve's gunslinging. He realized but too late.

Stu – LOL I’ll try to demonstrate my thought process on this one:

MSU had what I consider seven games against respectable competition: BSU (W), ND (L), OSU (L), Mich (L), Wiscy (W), Nebraska (L), NW (L) – 2-5. All of the rest of their games were against no-brainer should-be wins, and went 4-1.

Purdue had five games: ND (L), Mich (L), Wiscy (L), OSU (L), PSU (L) – 0-5. In the rest, they went 6-1.

MSU and Purdue, as in Oregon/Stanford and KSU/OU (and many others) really can be ordered either way. However, with wanting to keep ties out of my list, I need to give this one to MSU since they played tougher quality and ended up with the same record.

It should be noted that NOTHING in how I’m looking at this takes into account the “quality showing” or game scores (underdog who kept it close vs. blowouts). That is a piece of information I didn’t include that may have some bearing on the discussion, but so be it.

Dave – you could argue that had you played Jacksonville St. or ULaLa in the middle of that four game stretch it wouldn’t be a cake game. The point is, as good as Florida turned out to be this year, it SHOULD have been a cake game. The fact that it wasn’t doesn’t show how good Vandy is, it shows that Florida had a down game.

Ole Miss is bad, not even decent. Their six wins are against FCS C. Arkansas, 3-8 UTEP, 2-9 Tulane, Auburn, Arkansas, and MSU.

We are posting over each other. That means MSU went 4-1 against chippies while we went 6-1 and gave OSU/ND all they could handle.

Stu, you make a solid case (Can you believe we are taking up so much space discussing Purdue and MSU? ). If - while Kes says he didn't - you take into account HOW Purdue played its tougher opponents, you might give the nod to Purdue. It truly was a Jekyll and Hyde team this year. However, to rate them on how they played their games vs. their records IMO opens a pandora's box regarding teams like IU. Let's agree that both Purdue and MSU were down this year and could be interchangeable based on uniform styles and cheerleaders.

Ole Miss beat Ark, Aub and MissSt and lost by 3 to Tex A&M and by 6 to LSU.

The did have a bad game vs. Texas but I never said the Rebs were a good team.....just that their resume says they are a decent team and that's all I am saying.

Vandy beat them also and while Vandy is no LSU or SC they kept you on your toes this year and UF did manage to win 31-17 over them.

My debates this year are not about how great Florida is or how they stomp people silly because while they are great on defense the Gators are pretty average on offense if not downright bad at times.

That said....what the Gators accomplished with that schedule came within a couple of Lane Kiffin brainfarts or a Pitt miss of a short FG of getting the Gators to the BCS Title game which is pretty incredible if you ask me cause I never saw that one coming.

In their biggest game of the year, one that they knew they needed to win inorder to get to the SECCG and one that they were favored to win, the Gators gagged....leaving you to hope somebody else would gag in return...well Oregon and KState did and Notre Dame didn't.

To bad the SEC doesn't have a playoff...oh wait they do you get to play all the teams in your division and then the winner of the other division..hmm I guess careful what you wish for because sometimes with playoffs the best team doesn't advance...just ask the Packers of 2011.

    Kes,

Re: tip o' the cap: LOL this weekend's hate thread should be so much fun.

Interesting that Northwestern, who beat Vanderbilt, is ranked just one spot higher in the B1G than Vanderbilt is in the SEC.

I just got home and am currently watching ESPNU. They're talking about how Notre Dame would finish 6th or 7th in the SEC. This is glorious.

Terry... not picking a fight about how great Florida is as I said.

They did come through in tough circumstances at Tallahassee when all was possibly on the line..... and I respect the hell out of Muschamp and the team for doing so.

As I said also... for whatever reason... injuries being one... UF had a very uncharacteristic sloppy game vs. Ga. but still they fought till the end and were a goal line fumble away from having a chance to tie the game late.

In 1996 I knew UF had a great team..... but they were denied by FSU in Tallahassee that year 24-21. When the second chance came they annihilated the noles in the Sugar Bowl and I would have loved to see a UF-Ga rematch in Miami for all the marbles because a healthy and rested Fla would take down these Dawgs.

Go right on ahead... everyone gets hated on sooner or later. Even I've taken pokes at the Weis era Irish in comments. Have at it
