I wonder when Manny and Harper are going to make up their minds, it's seems like they should have had plenty of time to make up their minds by now.
Oh yeah, but that new park they play in is anything but pitcher friendly. Short porches, average gaps. I wouldn't want to pitch there unless they let me hit a bunch of people.
He doesn't have to be. This is an excellent trade for Cincy. They got rid of Baily's $23 mil contract (plus $5 mil buyout after 2018 season) and got two net $10 million players in return (after a $7 mil payment from the Dodgers and $3.5 mil from the Padres) who were not full-time players but still managed to hit a combined 40+ HR, knock in 140+ RBI, and had a combined .819 OPS. As every day players, they'll provide protection for Votto, Gennett, and the 3B whose name I can't recall. The Reds still lack quality SP, but as Corey said, the 2 ex-Dodgers are the right guys for a lineup that plays half of its games in the GAP. Cincy upped its offensive profile while breaking even on cash outlay. Given the Dodgers' apparent objective - signing Harper - it was a well thought-out trade for both teams, one of the smartest win-win trades I've seen in a long time.
Great American Ballpark has short lines and tight power alleys. Dodger Stadium isn't quite a national park, but depending on the wind (which can change and blow in at any moment), she's very pitcher friendly.
Harper and his agent want 10 years and $400 million. He already has several offers for 7 years and $340 million, but the big hang-up are the years. The Dodgers and Yankees can easily afford the money, but not the time. Decade long contracts are a thing of the past.
He'll be a Dodger..... the GD Yankees already signed Tulo at SS... which means Machado would be a 3rd baseman again.
I've heard the only reason Harper hasn't signed with LA are all Scott Boras related. Harper is from Vegas so being a Dodger would probably be nice for the family.
Gray might do better in a smaller market. His problem is that he has five pitches and likes to use each of them on every hitter. He has little faith in his fastball. High pitch counts and early exits were his calling cards in New York. And you need a very nimble catcher.
Astros 3rd baseman, Alex Bregman, who is a rising star recently had his elbow "cleaned" out and is going to be limited in the spring but they say he'll be ready for the opening day. What I don't get is why didn't he have this right after the season? Jose Altuve played the last part of the season on a bad knee and the day after the Astros were eliminated he had his surgery. I know sometimes guys try to rehab and avoid surgery, but this doesn't sound like something that you could rehab your way to health.
Dodgers are now after catcher J.T. Realmuto. This deal should have been done long ago, but the Marlins are insisting on getting Cody Bellinger in return. That is neva, evah gonna happen. The Dodgers are willing to trade young outfielders like Joc Peterson and Andrew Toles. They may even be willing to part with Keibert Ruiz, who is one of the top catching prospects in baseball. The rumors here say this deal is close.
