C'mon Corey! The comparisons to discriimination are a whole lotta stretch! I'm now waiting for the excuse that the BCS doesn't like schools that are from states that have a high Mormon population.
Aquila, No the suggestion by KP was that these teams choose their path. I pointed out that is not the case. Utah opened playing AT Michigan. Now Michigan did suck this year, suggesting that they chose an easier path is not based in fact... They are being discriminated upon because they are from the Mountain West. Period. The assumption is that the MWC sucks.. The MWC battered the Pac10 this year (who went unbeaten in the bowl games).. The conference has as many 10 win teams as the SEC despite having fewer members. This is a conference that does not suck...The on-field argument in terms of wins and losses doesn't hold water. When Utah is beating Alabama and Wyoming is beating Tennessee, it is pretty damned hard to play the 'top to bottom' argument either. They are being told that, they aren't from the right society... they don't have the right membership... So they gotta stay outside. That isn't right.. BTW-I know you were joking (I hope) about the Mormom thing but Utah isn't the 'mormon' school.. In fact, everyone I know who played for Utah (and there are quite a few) were more the beer drinking, partying SoCal type...
Hyperbole alert!! Come on man, that's a little over the top. Sure they were undefeated vs Pac10...but battered not hardly. BYU 28 Wash 27 ....worst Wash team in 50 years. TCU 31 Stanford 14 ....middle of pack team right? BYU 59 UCLA 0 ...turns out this was one of the worst UCLA teams in years. New Mex 36 Az 28...good win, Az was a pretty good team but hardly a battering here. UNLV 23 ASU 20 ....a really bad ASU team this year. Utah 31 Oregon State 28 ...this was a great game to watch. Hardly a battering though. Good win for the Utes though.
Terry, When you stand up to someone 6 times, and 6 times they put you on your ass.. You got battered.
Come on man, BYU battered as it turned out a really bad UCLA team, the rest of the games could hardly be described as battering. It'd be more iimpessive if the most of those wins hadn't come against the middle to bottom of the Pac10.
How ironic is it that you are now defending the Pac10? 0-6 is what it is... a battering. The top teams of the Pac10: -USC too busy beating everyone else outside of Pac10 to play MWC. -Oregon: beaten by Boise State...oops -Oregon State: lost to Utah...MWC member
Of course, I was joking. I understand what you mean about the MWC being discriminated against this season. There were some good teams in that conference this year. In fact, I think if BYU had been the team that went undefeated you may have seen them get a shot at the NC game. BYU started the season ranked 16/17 and if they had kept winning, I think they could have made a climb and possibly staked a claim in the NC game. However, Utah was unranked to begin the season. I think the combination of being unranked to start plus hailing from the MWC was too much to get them in. Beginnnig the season unranked was too much for even Auburn from that conference that everyone except you and Gipper loves.
I'm not defending the Pac10, I'm just saying that in your zeal for Utah to be the Nat'l Champion you are overstating the MWC vs Pac10. I think MWC vs Pac10 is a notch in Utah's case for #1. I said in another topic that I'm ok with Utah getting the nod at #1 in the AP poll, it won't convince me that they are the best...but without a playoff it's all just opinion anyway, so why not give them the #1 ranking. No harm No Foul.
I'm with ya. I'm just not sure how you can overstate 6-0. As they say in these parts... "Dats a country boy ass whuppin"
Come on if the SEC went 6-0 vs Az, Stan, ASU, Wazzu, UW and UCLA this year and wanted to say they kicked the Pac10's assess...you'd have an objection to that.
Yep, good game. With all due respect to Outbound, it's nice to see Nebraska back. I hope you guys can challenge Texas and Oklahoma.
If they beat 6 out of the 10 teams in the conference in a single year, what possible leg could I have to stand on? You are incorrect. I'd have no leg to stand on. I've given full credit to the MWC since long before this Utah title stuff came up. They owned us.. It happens. Jesus, that is more than half the conference they beat this year! It may not be a Rodney King-esque beat down, but it's a battering. BTW-The SEC was 1-1 this year.. UCLA beating Tennessee and Georgia beating Arizona State. The MWC was 2-0 vs the SEC with Wyoming beating Tennessee and Alabama beating Utah.. which according to the standard you are putting forth, is a more true indication of conference comparison since it was good on good, and bad on bad.
Uncle! You're right Utah would be undefeated no matter their conference after all they beat Michigan. The Mountain West is a tough as any conference as a matter of fact San Diego State might be No. 2 and I will give up my seat in the front of the bus so that t  he Utes can sit down.
I understand Sid. Here's another scenario. Utah had to score in the last minute to beat TCU but a score of 13 -10 I believe, Oklahoma beat TCU 35 - 10 so they are obviously better than Utah, Texas beat Oklahoma, Texas lost to Texas Tech who lost to Ole Miss who lost to Vanderbilt who lost to Duke. So Duke should be National Champion. Which makes as much sense as Corey's rants.
