From the moment you called we had a bad connection. I was going to call you back but didn't have your number because I'd left my Palm in the cradle at home. It's too late to call now.

Yeah, it was all shits and giggles against Chicago, but despite that anomalous series the Sox have still had difficulty manufacturing runs in the second half of the season. I haven't looked it up but they do seem to struggle against good pitching in close games, not a good sign if they make the post season. Tough series coming up.

According to the paper this morning, that was the most lopsided road shutout loss in Yankees' history.

First series win since the All-Star break, and Zumaya's back. The Tigers are still in good shape for both their division and the wild card.

Boston better find some runs to support Dice-K tonight.

    Tigers are still struggling.
Rogers is out and now the heart of the offense Sheffield is on the 15 da. DL. (He's been ineffective since a shoulder injury suffered in a collision over a month ago.)
Last night was one of the few good outings Verlander has had since his No-hitter and Bonderman is also struggling.
They brought up a kid named Jair Jurrjens who looked like he had great stuff. So after one super outing vs the Indians he blows out his shoulder on Sun. against the Yanks.
It's always about the pitching and this staff just isn't health enough to make a run.

Losing Sheffield is tough. Timo Perez, or whomever else, will not fill his shoes. Rogers and Jurrjens could be back by mid-September, although how effective Rogers can be is questionable. I guess Jurrjens is going to pitch out of the bullpen.

I had the Tigers picked before the All-Star break as the best shot from the AL, but then things started going south. I know they have their starter problems, but it's not like Bonderman and Verlander are cooked. Bonderman needs to figure out his first inning problems, and Verlander is not far off last season's results.

At only 2.5 back in their division and 3 back in the wild card with a month left to play, I think they still have a good shot, especially with Jim Leyland managing.

at the All-Star break the Tigers played 13 games with the Red Sox, Indians, Twins and Mariners. They won 10. They were having a championship season and then the bull pen went completely south. This seemed to have an effect on the starting pitching and then everything went. They went from having the best record in baseball to the worst record in the past 2 mos. Maybe Leyland can catch a falling knife but it isn't easy.

I remember. The Sox benefitted from pitching matchups (missed Bonderman) to go 3-1 against the Tigers in May, but then got swept by Detroit right before the break. Tigers were killing teams in June, but then that included interleague play 8)
