I think this may be A-Rod's swan song with the Yanks. My thinking is that when this season is over, A-Rod will be in Anaheim or LA and K-Rod will be be in New Yawk...
He pitched out of the bullpen on Sunday vs. the Giants. He walked Bonds. I saw a graphic last night on the Yanks bullpen in connection with Proctor walking in the winning run. It is truly pathetic. Walks, walks, walks. Something like 10-11 times this season walking in a run with the bases loaded. About 138 walks so far this season, last in either the league or MLB. Even the Rocket can't get the Yanks out of their current bullpen quagmire.
April: Great hitting, no starting pitching, no bullpen May: No hitting, better starting pitching, better bullpen June 1-15: Great hitting, good starting pitrching, good bullpen June 16-present: no hitting, great starting pitching, no bullpen JIF may be right
I guess that's not so bad Jiffy.....then when he gets inducted into Cooperstown he'll only be remembered as Ted Williams with more power, greater speed, a better glove and vastly superior manners......
Yeah it's always seemed odd to me that in Jifs lifetime as a Red Sox fan that no Sox player won a WS, so they had NO RINGS. Now that they have won a WS, it's his only criteria for evaluating success is, do you have a ring?
A-Rod will certainly make the Hall, but in order to be included in the group consisting of Ted Williams, Bill Terry, Rogers Hornsby, Harry Heilman, Ty Cobb, George Sisler and Nap Lajoie he just has to do one tiny little thing...
What would that be? Turn white? Join the KKK? Attack fans in the stands? What else does that group have in common?
Not many guys that hit .400 are gonna end up with 800 career homeruns. BDR, I doubt we'll see another addition to that club ever. One wonders how those boys would have fared in today's game....what with the plethora of night games and million dollar relievers.
I hear what you're saying, Buck-T. We do indeed have night games and million dollar relievers in the current era. We also have a lower mound, a smaller strike zone, a more tightly wound ball, smaller parks, the DH position in the AL and a lot more teams. More teams means more available pitching slots. With the exception of the increase in the number of teams, it seems to me that most of the changes made in baseball over the last several decades have actually favored the hitters.
I wonder how many dingers Teddyballgame would have hit if he didnt miss 4.5 years of his career ( in the service at the prime of his career)
I hear ya BDR, but there is surely is some reason as to why we had 12 better-than-.400 seasons in the 30 years prior to the Williams .406 but zero in the 60+ years following.
