This guy epitomizes where we have gone wrong. http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/02/18/florida.rothstein.ponzi.scheme/index.html?hpt=C1 There are some elements out there on Wall Street who would be this guy but they stop short of getting thrown under the jail. It's a great indicator of where we have gone wrong.....and what we need to fix.......and what we need to regulate if greedy MFs out there can't find it within themselves to find a little honesty and integrity.
A story about a guy committing a financial crime in South Florida is a cautionary tale about Wall Street?
BDR it's the brazenness factor......the in your face I'm doing it because I can factor that relates. I think what has gone down is a very fine line to clowns like this, I think people do things they shouldn't......."because they can". I have had that quote thrown at me before and it's amoral B/S in my opinion.
It's not about morals, it's about ethics. Please don't be fooled into thinking it's only the Wall street guys who have none... In my own factory I have plenty of folks who purposely work slowly, or not at all so they can work overtime to buy something they think they need. They are quite open about it when the boss isn't around... The scale may be different, but they are peas in a pod when it comes to doing what's right. For the record, I've worked about 12 hours of OT in the last 12 months.
Dave, you are delusional if you think those kind of people have not always been around or that those types don't exist in every cournty. Of course I realize that in your mind it's Bushes fault.
I am just pointing out how the mindset of "anything goes" ......"we do it because we can"......mentality can get out of hand and has in it's roots a lack of honesty and integrity.
Ponzi schemes have been around since.....well.....the days of Ponzi. If I recall he was doing his scheming in the 1920's. Gotta be Bush's fault.
Gipper.....until I see the right accept a great deal of the responsibilty for where we were in Nov. 2008 I will forever be extremely wary of what the right wants to do.
Who gives a ****? Has the left accepted any responsibility for where we were in 2009? Will they in Nov. 2010? (NO) But it doesn't matter to me anymore. It's clear, that most level headed Americans have had it with this present leadership in Congress and the White House. The real problem is, we'll be seeing consequences to this terrible spending years down the line when we'll be are suffocating from incredible debt. With any luck, you'll get to blame an administration on the right for all the problems.
Interesting you state that like the left has the most responsibility for 2009 economic conditions. Like somehow they were going to reverse in months what it took years to create.
Was I hallucinating when I thought I heard Obama tell us that the Stimulus Package was needed right away and that it would "jolt the economy" and prevent unemployment from rising about 8%? Pissing away 800 billion plus was presented as their plan to turn the ship. It failed miserably. I'm led to reach three conclusions. One, the guy is just a liar and all he cared about when he spent all that money was keeping his government union folks sucking from the public tit. Two, he and his economic advisors don't know **** about the economy and couldn't run a candy store. (the Sec'y of the Treasury couldn't fill out his tax form correctly or he's a crook) Three, the same folks who blamed Bush for everything from the price of gas to hurricanes will blame Obama's failures on him. And if you're Danny Glover, you can add the earthquake in Hatii on Bush too.
What was the timetable for the actions taken by Obama to work....six weeks? I'm not defending the guy because I do not know how long it's supposed to take. He may be a slime ball or a lunatic or an idiot or a combination of all three but I don't think we can really understand how all of this is going turn out just yet. Maybe in another 6-8 months we'll get a better and truthful idea of it. In the interim I'm all ears for someone who has centrist views.
Gip, I definitely agree on point 2. After one year, it's obvious to me that this administration does not know the meaning of fiscal responsibility. What is the connection between Danny Glover and Haiti?
Danny Glover took leave of his senses years ago and became a leftist extremist wacko. His specialty is blaming any and all natural disasters on the last GOP president to hold office. Too much hemp and too few roles, I expect.
I see. I'd prefer to remember him as Mel Gibson's sidekick. Too often, Hollywood cool people step over the line from acting/singing to political commentary. With very few exceptions, they tend to make complete fools of themselves. Sounds like Glover is in the majority.
Sid, have you been drinking from Danny Glover's private stock? Here's a report on Glover's "observations" http://newsbusters.org/blogs/brent-baker/2010/01/16/actor-danny-glover-blames-global-warming-earthquake-haiti
In other words, by 1-3 months before the November midterm elections they should be able to turn on a switch to get themselves reelected not help the poor folks who have been struggling for months or years. That's about right.
Haha! I edited the statement above to add the word "not". I read the Glover link. I see what you mean.
