Constitution paranoia over common sense. How do you think this will ever get better? Enjoy the news.... you must like train wrecks too.
I'll make this my last comment on "this" gun topic (Lord knows another one will eventually sneak into the mix). Dave mentions common sense and he as well as others like him are simply astounded that a large percentage of their friends and neighbors cannot see the simple truth that guns should be banned. Or at the very least only allowed by authority figures because the deaths that have occurred from them. Gun owners like myself believe if people used common sense along with the hundreds if not thousands of laws on the books to control guns the deaths would not occur. But unfortunately humans forgo common sense and the laws decided by men and woman to blaze their own path regardless if it is illegal. We on a daily basis hear of racism, this is propagated from all points left and right. This is old thinking played by the media and groups who gain from the flux of the movement. I have more in common with various colored people than I do with whites at times. It's easy to be color blind if we attempt to walk in respect to others. I believe that the cultural divide in our country is not race any longer but the thought process of urban versus rural, Christian versus Non-Christian and independent or self governing ideology versus Big government and we are a village mentality. I despise the labels of democrat, republican and points left and right, very few of us are 100% in any direction in which I would describe as insanity. But we have our experiences that shape our thoughts to form opinions that eventually give voice to what we think. The issue is in spite of us coming together with our voices to make laws on a common ground with those who bargain with a different set of life experiences to make the laws for the people are not good enough these days. The mob mentality whipped up by the media at every offense be it a firearm death or whatever is Facebook fecal matter driven to ban them all and ban them NOW. We have laws in the books for a purpose, if they are not working we should decide on new laws as long as it is not pushed by a political agenda or media inspired...But we have to respect each other in the process, seems to me there is not enough respect given to each other in this era and without it we cannot listen to each other to find common ground needed to build our country.
My son is all for an armed citizenry. He said that if people were disarmed they would be in much worse peril.
That's all I'm saying Ralph. We have to remove the politics from the gun debate and we have to do it now. I think the way we are handling it now with all of the rancor and blind support of open gun laws actually fuels the actions of some of these unstable individuals. In the case of Adam Lanza's mother the insurance information for her son's psychotic meds was in her name and yet she is allowed to acquire semi-automatic weapons and expose her psychotic son to them. Shouldn't we examine that case for instance and see what could have been done better to prevent the deaths of all those children?
Okay I am going against my earlier wish to end my conversation to the gun debate. Hey Jif, BLOW ME on the only authorities should have a gun, if you are born and bred on concrete you don't have a friggin clue to what the REST of America is and probably do not care...My family has 65 years of law enforcement between them and its still going and they would not agree with your statement...I get up as early as you did when you were running your business and I am sure I work longer hours than you did at that time but mine consist of not only feeding people as the end result but keeping my employees safe and sound as we are 1 hour away from the AUTHORITIES. We have our own wells to supply water that we paid for, our own roads that we paid for and manage and sometimes we supply our own electricity as we are easily forgotten at the end of the line. The end result is we do what is necessary to get the job done on our own effort and not the AUTHORITIES.... It has been my experience that the authorities are normally the issue in most troubles but just in case they cannot be present (As hoped) when a crisis arrives we have learned to take care of ourselves because that is what people do, take care of themselves and not rely on somebody else. To think otherwise only adds to the pussification of our country... As far as exposure to firearms WE AS A SOCIETY HAVE TO recognize that the person pulling the trigger is responsible for his or her action....Period... If this is unacceptable to you then change the current laws in place and pray for better results...
I have very strong views on this subject. I have quit posting on it because every time this topic comes up we start responding to each other emotionally...we have lost a couple of very good friends of this board because of these arguments. I think that maybe I was partly a cause of one of my friends leaving the Skybox. I regret that very much. I am not asking for any policing of what we should or should not talk about. I just ask that we continue to reply to each other and do our debating respectfully.
 RECAINE... I have no idea what working long hours has to do with anything...you make no sense...nada...zero...and good for you having family members who are in law enforcement....oh and by the way I doubt you worked..or now are working more then I did during a 40 year stretch. 14 hours a day times 7 days a week for the above mentioned 40years.
Out of respect for Stu and others I have gone too far and owe them an apology and you, Skybox is not the place for my knee jerk reactions, I know better but I have let my emotions get the better of me in this discussion and I am sorry for that.... I wish you the best and ask your forgiveness for my emotional responses....It is better for everyone if I keep them to myself or for another board... Regards.....
We're all friends here. It is an emotional topic and we all look at it from varied perspectives. And many are scared at what they see going on around them daily. No harm. No foul. Play ball.
"And many are scared at what they see going on around them daily." Well we should be at least George. Last I looked this isn't war torn Iraq with Isis killing people daily. This is America.... and we should have it better here. But I'll bet family members of all those innocents killed by gun crazies over the past few years don't feel that America is getting it right when it comes to gun ownership laws.
...another cop just killed in/near Chicago....well...maybe im wrong...maybe we do in fact need to arm EVERYONE!!
Dave, They are not gun crazies. They are crazies or hardened criminals who use a gun to commit that crime. They would use anything they could get their hands on.
Louis Farrakhan called for blacks to hunt down and and kill cops two weeks ago. Now the Black Lives Matter wackos have called for the same thing. As have the Black Panthers. Game on, I'm afraid. You may not need uniforms for this Civil War. Meanwhile, the President sits silently by.....
You can't compare street savvy criminals with criminal know how vs. crazies. If faced with serious obstacles in obtaining guns legally how many crazies also would have those type of criminal connections?
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. 56 million defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens. Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late! The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson. With guns, we are "citizens". Without them, we are "subjects". SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN! SWITZERLAND'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE. SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!! IT'S A NO BRAINER!
Law enforcement is strongly against gun control. If the people on the front lines prefer the right to bear arms to an unarmed citizenry with the knowledge they have, well, that's good enough for me.
